Fun fact the book is not just about unemployment, the protagonist works for a time as a dishwasher in some Paris hotel kitchens!
The great Anthony Bourdain praised this book for its depictions of the lifestyle of kitchen workers in the 1920s, pointing out that many of Orwells observations are still relevant today.
I really enjoyed reading this, in a grim sad kind of way. It’s a fascinating peek into the living conditions of a different era.
George Orwell, isn't it? I liked it when I read it. There are better books, but this one is ok, and kind of short.
I read this a long, long time ago and it still sticks with me. Well worth the read.
