I figure I’ll do something like this every so often.

What has been a category you created that really became useful to you or provided unexpected value?

As a first time homeowner, starting a Home Projects master category and slowly funding projects categorized beneath that.

So far, done a few small things. Chicken coup, vegetable planters, shade cloth cover over the patio. Lots of fun 😁

Chicken Coup: For ending the tyranny of the rooster! Chicken Coop: A place for raising chickens. πŸ˜‚

I've always wanted a chicken coop, but my city doesn't allow it. Someday........someday.... How do you like it so far?!

I gotta try a home projects master category. Probably better than binning everything into the same category.

Haha that certainly is a typo πŸ˜…πŸ˜… No rooster to rebel against so I'm not sure what they're plotting πŸ€”

I can't see myself not having chickens anymore >_< Definitely a requirement for our next home, whenever that is. It's my first time raising chickens so I was surprised to find they have a lot of personality! They've become outdoor pets that give me a handful of eggs a day. I've made the huge mistake of naming them though. I haven't had to cull any yet but I'm dreading that day. For now though, they have about another year or so of egg laying.

Anyway, a fun experience. They're low maintenance and funny creatures.

Naming your chickens was the best move. My friend who has chickens 3D printed plastic arms that hang over their back. It’s hilarious to see them run around

My "the banana stand" category where I park a few extra dollars for unexpected one off expenses.

Its hard to pick just one.... I break down my paycheck by gross, taxes and insurance. It really helped when my other half got a new job and was going over benefit packages. It felt awesome showing how much I spent each month and even used memos to further break down medical dental and vision.

πŸ˜… then again I'm salary and can just duplicate my paycheck transactions so splitting my paycheck into categories is much easier.

Oh my god! I do this myself but outside of YNAB in a spreadsheet and keep YNAB to post-deductions budgeting. It never even crossed my mind to do it all in YNAB. So do you use a β€œwork” account that manages the deductions?

Probably the "giving" category. Itβ€˜s the category where I realize the most that a budget isn’t restraining and instead enables you to spend money how you actually want to. "Giving" is something that I find important and without having that category there, I’d really struggle to do it.
