But can't afford lunches.

Btw, @[email protected], iirc you requested a way to subscribe to all games for a team so that you don't need to call the bot every time. The bot supports subscription now.

-mod_action subscribe -football community team

It should works for all teams not named Liverpool, due to South American shenanigans.

@[email protected] I think you might be interested in this too.

Shoot, I'll guess I'll need to make fuzzy team name matching stricter.

Are you sure this is working properly now? I didn't have a thread pop up for the PSV game on time, had to manually request it.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 7 hours ago

The most likely issue was that the bot only checks for new subscribed games every 6 hours to avoid spamming espn.

When you subscribed the subscription handler was sleeping, so it didn't check for new games. You then manually added the arsenal game which went from request queue directly into the live threads queue. When the subscription handler woke up, it looked for arsenal games and found the next game, it then checked the request queue, and since it couldn't find the game, added it to the queue.

The duplicate posting is a bug. I know what the fault is, so it should be quick to fix.

I'll take a look at the logs after the Liverpool game

I assume the same problem exists for Barcelona :p

[–] [email protected] 1 points 15 hours ago

hopefully not but maybe problems might be from Arsenal de Sarandi? lol

Wonder if they're aiming to take the size record from Camp Nou. A good move by them though. If the statistics are to be believed, they got the highest attendance in Premier League, filling out their stadium at its current size.

I heard that the waiting list for season tickets is over 100 000 long.

Even though I am not a local fan I hope they do it right (like I think Barca does it) which is that they charge low prices for season ticket holders and they make up the money on tourists/hospitality tickets.

Another great use of our natural resources 👍

Obviously this is another brilliant idea by Sir Jim. Just increase ticket prices, multiply by number of seats and ... voilà, line goes up. Why didn't anyone else think of that?

Oh, and don't forget to charge extortionate rates for handicapped parking, because why not.

I have no idea what your problem is lol, literally all big clubs either have a pretty new stadium or are in the process of renovating it or are planning to build a new one.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Yes, most teams are playing in modern, large stadiums or are in the process of having them constructed now. My wording was probably a bit off. What I wanted to express was unease with the fact that the current management is squeezing pennies out of common people working for the club in the name of fiscal responsibility while at the same time planning major expenses for this project just seems ... off.

For the stadium they are looking for someone to come in and pay for it.

as for the cuts:

there is a rather open interview with SJR from just yesterday: https://lemmy.world/post/26631663

Club has been losing money for the last 7 years and would have ran out of cash in November if not for what SJR put in, costs needed to be cut, some of it is reaching cruelty levels for sure such as the 40K a year mentioned for ex-players in the Interview by Neville.

they will also cut player expenses as much as they can do too, but as he says in the interview united will have to spend like 90m pounds this summer on players that INEOS had 0 say in signing.

Looking for someone to finance a new stadium is fine, but seems speculative at best right now. It's hard to imagine any serious investors really gushing about such an opportunity at the moment.

In terms of cutting costs: in my opinion there was a lot of room for savings when it came to the Dan Ashworth hiring and firing. Additionally the way the decision makes at the club wasted millions on renewing Ten Hag's contract and then firing him soon after also seems imprudent. Apparently it's easier to fire the proverbial tea lady instead of making some more sound long term decisions by the management.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 day ago

I mean, the club has been losing in excess of a 100 million per year, even if Ashworth and Ten Hag weren't fired that wouldn't have changed anything, not to mention the cash SJR injected more than covers it, they paid for their fuckups.

Also sticking with Ashworth when they decided it's not the right fit would have been pretty bad long term management.

i really don't count these points as valid complaints, no offense

Is this controversial? I thought people had been complaining about Old Trafford and how it's falling apart for ages
