$750 gas bill..... Jesus Christ man....

[–] [email protected] 9 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) (1 children)

No bueno! First things first, check your meter and see if the number is higher or lower than the bill; occasionally it will be an estimate in which case you should be able to provide your own actual reading to your provider, or it will right itself by the next bill.

Next, if the read is accurate, check for leaks. Generally you will need a plumber to check for you, but better to be safe. (Edit: adding, if there is a leak you will most likely still be liable for the bill).

Otherwise, it may just be the gas price increases have come into effect, and you're seeing that on your bill now.

Source: many years in energy call centres.

[–] [email protected] 7 points 1 year ago (2 children)

Reading is accurate. Haven't checked for leaks, but my graphs don't suddenly spike and are comparable to last year. I think shit's just expensive....boo

I'm wasted on this audience (my parents). The TV just had some ad where a woman had all of her toes amputated due to diabetes, showed her nub foot. She said "you never think it'll happen to you, but until you put your foot into someone else's shoes..." and I said "Ha! Was that a pun?? That was toe-tally a pun.." and dad was like "yeah".

I crave appreciation for my comedy and I'm not getting it from these supposed "loved ones".

Maybe if you told some jokes you might get a better reaction. 😐

Got higher duties at work (yay extra cash).

Tasked with performance managing someone (book extra work).

Good news is that we have a new manager and they've been leaning on me to guide them through what we do and asking for my advice quite a bit. We get on well and think along the same lines.

Bad news is that higher duties kind of require me to be in the office 3 days a week.

Approx 6mg of gummy, a good episode of Star Trek TNG, off to a traditional no-name diner next door for a hot meatloaf & gravy sandwich and a tall cold country style lemonade.. now I've plonked myself on a layback lawn chair in my hotels courtyard where the wifi is fast and plentiful. Not a bad way to spend a summer evening in Deadwood, SD.

Update: I have relocated myself away from the flagpole because a thunderstorm has rolled in. Enjoy 79 seconds of Deadwood Summer Storm with me as I sit here: https://youtu.be/-OHD2UdU40c

Ugh, just remembered due to schedule changes the person I am relieving tonight is someone who I dislike immensely, think I'll forgo my strict punctuality and relieve them last minute. I hate to be rude, but with a week like the one I've had so far I couldn't bare having to listen to her crap for more than a minute.

I thought I had sold one of my Marketplace items, but I think it's just a better quality scammer than the last one. ☹️

Made a impromptu Japanese curry with what I had, which was onion, capsicum, zucchini, beef mince and a tin of diced tomato. Added chilli, ginger and garlic and curry roux cubes. First time using mince to make Japanese curry and it worked well!

About a decade and a half ago, my dad's side would hire a houseboat on the Murray, in Mildura, and we'd spend 2 weeks in the middle of nowhere wakeboarding, skiing, and drinking. My uncle has a ski boat and a tinny, so we'd hook both to the back of the houseboat when we felt like moving.

My uncle and aunt also have a few ski-toys, like an inflatable biscuit, or these blow-up pod things you could sit in and be pulled by the boat. I was by myself on the biscuit thing, and my aunt was driving the ski boat, and she was terrifying. She would do these donuts in the water so the wake would crash into itself and get super high and choppy, and I'm bouncing around holding on for dear life. Then, the wakes coalesced and the biscuit got absolutely launched

When I came back down, I was still holding on, but slowly let go and slid off. Totally done haha!

Here is the pic my dad snapped of me mid-air, during that epic launch:

image of choppy water and the underside of a watersports inflatable biscuit

that's my foot poking out the bottom there hahah

Edit: to clarify, this is meant to be my 'funny story' contribution lol

Finally going home, I'm just happy to get away from the tradies. So bloody loud! I don't think anyone else was in the office complex except for me and my boss lmfao

I am death warmed up, but I wanted to remain cold;
They say death becomes you, and so does getting old.
The pains of life seem to have increased threefold,
But they're worth it as long as you stay bold.
No, not all that glitters is really gold,
Sometimes it's pyrite you get given to hold.
But it's still worth it, even if we get old.

Busy day today, my desk looks like a disaster. I could almost make a fort or a wall with all these books on my desk.

Well at least the sun is shining today, good to see it out.

Super busy day today, I hope I can find some rest or break time somewhere.

Also as a continuation to my dinner plans, I'll eat that pasta salad thing I bought and microwave it to melt the cheese ontop with the chorizo layered under it.

I finally had my hot water system replaced. It’s so nice to have hot water again though I’m going to have to get used to this system.

It doesn’t seem as hot as what the last one was as it doesn’t take as much cold water to cook the water down for a wash. Maybe I can adjust the temperature on the unit itself but I’ll leave that for tomorrow since it’s dark already but….

Oh my god is it so nice to have it on demand again!

Also dinner will be organised soon and photos will come.

Awesome snack of the day post

[–] [email protected] 7 points 1 year ago

Lovely day outside. I've just been outside tidying up my outdoor setting to list for sale, and the fact that I've come back inside instead of sitting out on the neatly set up lounge in the sunshine is a good indication that selling it is a good idea! So, if anyone is looking for a second hand outdoor lounge setting, bargains to be had on Marketplace now! Meanwhile, I'm off to find more things to get rid of.

Here is my dinner for tonight.

Tub of creamy tomato pasta salad with Parma and chorizo and a side serving of discount potato salad.

Nothing fancy, deeply discounted and wanted to be a little bit adventurous as I’ve never tried the creamy tomato pasta salad before.

No exercises for me today. Why? I have a cold, finally I've succumbed to the thing which has gone through the whole family. Easily done when your partner coughs wetly all over you! In the kitchen, no less. It was as disgusting as it sounds. Also my MIL has apparently had the same thing and keeps coming in to our place while I'm at work, coughing and touching things and dropping in cheap NQR junk food for the children (because that's what sick kids need🙄) spreading more germs around. Didn't learn anything from the pandemic did we. Fuck them both. No, I'm just the only breadwinner, supporting 5 people with my wage and paying the bills for the entire house, her part and ours. People are stupid.

Luckily I have an awesome hoodie (thankyou dear friend 💜) to wear in bed whilst running like a tap. I'm not good at being a sick person, I haven't been sick since 2017 when I had glandular fever. Please forgive me being a grumpy bum. I just get crotchety when preventable things aren't prevented.

I hope someone is taking care of you and bringing your soup and patting you gently!

[–] [email protected] 6 points 1 year ago

You sound like you are in such a frustrating situation with an unsupportive and thoughtless partner. Hope you feel better soon and that he gets a clue.

I was only supposed to be out in the field from 8-11 but I ended up being out from 8-2 because the weather was SO good and I really liked the job we're on (and I won't have the chance to help out any more as I'll be based south side from tonight). WHAT a mood booster!

I have still got a lot to do but it doesn't feel anxiety inducing at all - kind of looking forward to smashing out some work this evening knowing it'll be the last I see of these projects - and I still have plenty of energy to get through it after a short break waiting for the traffic to die down.

Meds, huh. Who knew getting the right one could actually make a difference

My contributing shitpost for today is that I had kippers and bread and butter for dinner. Now I'm enjoying a cup of tea.
