Factory farming is immoral and plain wrong, so I'm happy to see this. We should only be consuming Canadian animals which we know are treated better.

We should only be consuming Canadian animals which we know are treated better.
This is how people brainwash themselves into feeling good about committing cruelty and violence. This specific method is finding an example that is even worse, and living in that tiny margin between an atrocity, and a slightly smaller atrocity. I managed to go for years being an "ethical consumer of animals" before I stopped lying to myself.
It's not even true that Canadian animals are treated better. We have some of the worst animal protection laws in the Western world. For example, if it's -31C out, and you know that animals will die suffering exposure on the truck that you're loading to haul for 16 hours with no food or water, that's perfectly okay. Not only is it not a crime, it's business as usual.
USDA will allow plant to continue feeding Americans is the news here.
So, the suspension was due to three strikes on sub-quality goods delivered, and unrelated to the tariffs.
I'm imagining that where there is some interpretation of quality and rules, American suppliers will find all countries stricter while their government plays chicken with trade wars.
Don’t worry, massively slimming down the USDA should help with that pork quality issue lol
Free market. People will just start buying from companies that don't give them food poisoning.
Or we can try to regulate things so that few or none get sick.
One seems a better choice than the other.
Free market
Under corporatist corrupt markets, any terrorist that disrupts the American economy by accusing a company of poisoning people, should be deported back to Iran. They can only hate America. I'm not even sure why USDA employees should write to Musk 5 bullet points on how they hated America last week. /s
lol..not in the USA…we essentially have monopolies in chicken, pork, and beef
I wasn't eating pork before the admin change because of lack of compliance.
Good idea. Fortunately, I live close to many farms and can buy direct from reputable farmers outside of the typical US supply chain.
That's dope. I'm especially careful about pork I buy due to pigs' intelligence, and the beef we get around here is amazing and comes from very happy cows. Wish I could say I were truly outta that supply chain though.
Yeah, it is hard to be completely out of the supply chain. I’m even retired right now and it’s a lot of work. But, it does feel (and taste) a lot better eating animals that you know have been humanely treated their whole lives.
This can only be a good thing. I read that series on Arstechnica about the Boar’s Head listeria contamination. “Heavy meat buildup on walls”
Yeah, nobody should be buying Boar's Head anymore.
