Why the fuck would you spend 800 euro on a 13", non-upgradeable tablet instead of, say, a laptop?

Apologies, I'm just bitter no one makes 8 inchers anymore.

Because you want a device that's a tablet first.

Why would you want that though?

Not being funny, I have honestly never seen a good use case for a touchscreen that's too big to fit in your pocket a la your phone and isn't better served by a mouse & keyboard or a remote like a TV.

I have an 8" tablet that I like because it's a lot more portable than a full laptop, and I can rotate it, and it's got a larger screen than my phone. Just the other day I was using it to study for a class I'm taking, and it worked wonderfully for that. And I'm sure artists love them for digital art work, especially with larger screens.

I've used 2-in-1 laptops, and I wasn't a fan because they're awkward due to the weight, and sometimes they don't shut off all the buttons on the keyboard part. And you can't always take off the keyboard to mitigate those issues.

To read comics for one.

I have the galaxy tab ultra. I use it more than my actual laptop for surfing and lounging and watching videos. For work and productivity I use my laptop. If I really had to pick one, I'd probably pick the tablet. It's all about what you do with it + formfactor

(have a desktop for actual gaming)

Also, the Lenovo y700 is an awesome device if you want an 8inch tablet.

I know there's some use cases, but it feels like they're pandering to smaller and smaller niches. But I suppose tablets are more and more niche these days.

And yeah, I know about the y700, it's a good device, but I've been looking for a nexus7-like device on and off for the past couple of years and find it fascinating that if you were to release it today if would blow most other tablets out of the water. A ten year old device ffs. Anyway, I mostly read stuff, so a 7-8 inch high-res budget tablet is the dream. I've done the compromises: a large tcl nxtpaper phone, an e-ink reader, a budget lenovo tab. They're just not the same tbh.
