"if someone's going to scalp it might as well be us" seems to have been the GPU mantra since the 20x0 series.

I am done doing upgrades of my shit until it breaks.

This parasites got fat off our consumerism and taken the gamer market for granted.

I can adjust my consumption, fuck you.

Newegg lost all credibility with me years ago.

Do you or anyone else have suggestions on where to go to buy parts or premade PCs for Canada? I've been trying to upgrade for years but I honestly just don't know where to buy from anymore.

Depending on where you live, check memory express. They only have 10(?) locations nationwide, but i'm pretty sure they're in all the big cities

[–] [email protected] 2 points 4 days ago

Looks like there's one in the city next to mine, thats excellent. Thanks!

My GTX 970 is still going strong, I can wait another three years until prices go down.

I've been telling myself that for years now

For Canada, unfortunately no. Unless Microcenter is available up there, that's my go-to these days. You could maybe try them out online, I dunno if they'd ship to you.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 4 days ago (1 children)

I'll check it out, thanks 👍

Try Canada Computers or Best Buy.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Thanks, i hadn't heard of Canada computers.

Interesting, is best buy generally considered a good place to buy from? I guess I just kind assumed big chain = overpriced and unreliable.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 4 days ago (1 children)

BestBuy is generally overpriced. Sometimes good deals on peripherals and their returns policy is generous.

Odd that you have never heard of Canada Computers. If you are in Quebec, they are called Ordinateurs Canada.

Depending on where you live, you might have a Memory Express nearby.

Well tbh i probably have heard of them before at some point but when you search up "where to buy a new pc canada" it's tough to tell whats legit or not.

My last pc was made by a local place that went out of business and I never really upgraded it or anything after that.

Yeah, fuck neewegg. I'll never forget their GPU bullshit from the pandemic.

Fuck I couldn't upgrade before the tariffs. Now I'm gonna be rocking a 10+ year old rig by the end of this and there won't even be elections to fix it.

[–] [email protected] 17 points 4 days ago

Right? I refuse to buy Nvidia anymore. Their prices are criminal. Fuck em. It's not the tarrifs at all.

AMD is releasing cards in a few weeks. Would be worth checking those out when they arrive. nVidia and AMD releasing cards within a month of eachother should also mean there is a plethora of used cards on the market.

[–] [email protected] 9 points 4 days ago

It’s going to be the same story of no stock, higher prices due to tariffs, and “paper launch” comparisons when AMD releases their next cards. This is how it goes now. In 6 months there might be some supply recovery but prices will remain high.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 4 days ago (1 children)

I was looking at AMD and Intel for this build. Gonna make a new build for my Linux gaming needs cause Nvidia is not worth dealing with.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 4 days ago

I run a team red linux gaming rig (5800X3D/6800XT) and I love it. Just an anecdotal data point for you.

Maybe someone can correct me if there is a flaw in this idea, but you can get last gen for significantly cheaper when new gen releases. I bought 3070 founders edition for ~$350 soon after 40 series dropped

[–] isildun 3 points 3 days ago

I’m upgrading my PC from 2017 (GTX 1070) this year and the GPU market is a bloodbath. I managed to get a 5080 via a Newegg ~~scam~~ combo after sitting there and refreshing… for days. Even the combos would sell out almost instantly upon going up.

The lack of availability of 50-series combined with lackluster generational performance growth (4090 is better than 5080) means that used 40-series cards either kept or even gained value. New 40-series cards don’t exist anymore since nvidia stopped production months ago to focus on 50-series.

5070(ti) launches later this month and the rumors I’ve seen are that it will be just as bad as 5080/5090.

[–] [email protected] 8 points 4 days ago

So price hikes on cards they don’t have….

[–] [email protected] 4 points 4 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (1 children)

Bunch of greedy ass geezers. I've been watching the MSI RTX 5090 Liquid Suprim SOC. Announced at 2,499. B&H initially had it at that price, then 2,789, then 2,799, then back to 2,789. US MSI store also went to 2,799. Haven't seen a price yet on NewEgg.

Edit: Just noticed that I'd said "4090" instead of "5090". This has been corrected. Apologies for the typo.

Announced at 2,499

...for a video card. Jesus.
