currently in the college library trying to get some schoolwork done and there are two women behind me working and they brought a 7-8 year old kid and their 1-2 year old child who has been cooing, laughing, and fussing for the past 30 minutes while everyone is trying to work around it. i would be more empathetic if this was a public library with minimal resources, but this is a college library that i’ve paid to access the same as everyone else and there are at least 8 separate study rooms with doors and a lobby just outside that allows conversation so there’s really no excuse for letting this child crawl around while their older brother eggs him on. ETA: there are signs posted throughout the library that state the volume level of each area. we are in the whisper zone so they should be at a whisper level. i’m not saying it’s impossible for me to move somewhere else, but i am in the spot that i like to be in where people (usually) follow the noise level guidelines. i’m miffed at the disregard for others here. UPDATE: guys i did tell staff and they did move. i’m mildly infuriated at the fact that there was no situational awareness and a lack of consideration for the people around them who came to the whisper zone, not to listen to a baby but to focus on their work. i understand that parenting isn’t easy, but i’m not going to uproot my entire setup because a parent wants to change the rules of the library. sorry not sorry.
