Damnatio memoriae (en.wikipedia.org)
submitted 3 months ago by merde to c/wikipedia

Damnatio memoriae is a modern Latin phrase meaning "condemnation of memory" or "damnation of memory", indicating that a person is to be excluded from official accounts. Depending on the extent, it can be a case of historical negationism. There are and have been many routes to damnatio memoriae, including the destruction of depictions, the removal of names from inscriptions and documents, and even large-scale rewritings of history.

I can't tell if this image is funny or chilling.

it is chilling if Stalin is in it

erased person too seems to be an awful figure. Maybe if we erased all that's evil from the photo, it would become a photo of a river ๐Ÿคท

fuck them both, they're horrible people. But the idea of erasing a person's history after executing them (not even for murder, just treason and anti-soviet activities) is quite dystopian to me.

Can't believe there are people who look at stuff like this then still praise the tyrant.
