This seems pretty normal. Boring even.

Lol that's a rookie mess. You need to start way more projects that you're "going to finish any day now" and let them all sit for about 5 years.

[–] [email protected] 7 points 6 days ago (2 children)

The endless amount of hobbies that never seem to stick...

[–] [email protected] 4 points 6 days ago

But you can't entirely quit because of the sunken cost.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 6 days ago

Nah they all stick, but priorities are priorities.

New shiny is much higher on the to-do than the stack of #TODO in my git or the half finished stack of 3d printed parts, or that access point that is begging to be put back together.

It's good having variety, I'm able to bounce between things while never really getting bored of one thing.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 6 days ago

Haha true. (Un)fortunately most of my hobbies are on the computer so I don't have that much physical clutter

This is the ebike I started like 3 years ago and am anxious about even thinking about because it reminds me of the weight of all the fun plans I had, surrounded by half emptied moving boxes from more than a year ago, and draped in christmas lights from when I was in a mental health episode doing the bare minimum to decorate last year 😅

At least I don't have to do the bare minimum to decorate in a mental health episode this year, the decorating is already done!

You can't make me!

I cleaned up while I was in my last meeting

[–] [email protected] 7 points 6 days ago* (last edited 6 days ago) (1 children)

This mess actually feels quite cozy. I like it :D Also your setup is super cool!

[–] Reverendender 4 points 6 days ago (1 children)

Wow, thank you so much! It took me forever to figure out (and motivate to make happen)! I get so little encouragement in life, this is wonderful!

[–] [email protected] 2 points 6 days ago (1 children)

Nw :-) Did it use to be far more chaotic before the meeting where you tidied it up?

[–] Reverendender 5 points 6 days ago

I admit to nothing

[–] [email protected] 1 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Is that G20 Semiotics I see on the right? Noice.

I wisch I had a workplace/laboratory like yours.

[–] Reverendender 4 points 6 days ago

If it makes you feel better, it’s in my parents’ house. But in 6 months I should be ready to purchase my own.

Pff amateur

[–] [email protected] 6 points 6 days ago (1 children)

That's not bad at all. 🤷🏻‍♂️

[–] [email protected] 1 points 6 days ago

Haha I suppose... It's more of the trend that unsettles me than the actual amount of mess

[–] [email protected] 3 points 5 days ago (1 children)

Dude, that's me on meds, fully cured. Need more unused cables, 3 keyboards (although there are only 2 computers), the old broken mouse, hand lotion, tooth picks, several old food wrappings / jars, important letters all in between, a folding rule, dental floss (where the heck DO you even floss?), mosquito spray, new envelopes, masks, used envelopes with "important" hand-written notes, several pens half of which work, expired credit / insurance cards, vitamins, Covid tests and test wrappers, where is your cup and glass for water?, ironically a duster, 1 extra 1st gen TFT screen from 1999 that's not attached to anything, who knows what's underneath.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 5 days ago* (last edited 5 days ago)

Hahaha agreed I'm definitely not the worst. I've visited friends whose places were also like what you describe

If potentially having mental illness is bothering you, see a doctor about it.

I got diagnosed in my 30s and holy damn meds changed everything. I took adhd meds for first time and 45 mins later remember thinking ‘is this how normies are all the time? You can think something and just do it?? No prep, no build up?!’

[–] [email protected] 3 points 6 days ago

My wife has been trying different meds for months with her doctor and so far nothing has helped. I really hope she finds the right one that can make her feel like you describe. :-/

This is true. I have actually been to the doctor and he gave me stims, but that's where it ended at. The stims definitely help me focus and give me the patience to do stuff like reading, showering, and homework, but they don't affect the underlying neurodivergence in any way (ie. I'm still annoyed at change, still struggle to Go Out And Do Things in life). :(

[–] Aquila 5 points 6 days ago

but they don't affect the underlying neurodivergence in any way (ie. I'm still annoyed at change, still struggle to Go Out And Do Things in life)

Have you talked to doctor about those? You may have to seek out psychologist and/or therapist to get answers you’re looking for.

I wish I could go back and get diagnosed sooner. I barely remember my 20’s due to major depressive episodes. But I’m happy I’m figuring it out now instead of 10 or 20 yrs from now!

[–] [email protected] 3 points 6 days ago

Get everything out. Do your step 1 in the project. Good so far. Rinse and repeat.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 6 days ago (1 children)

What do the clothes pins do?

[–] [email protected] 2 points 6 days ago (1 children)

Oh, they ensure there's a gap under the bottom of my laptop. Otherwise the fan would be blocked

[–] [email protected] 2 points 3 days ago

That's clever and simple.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 6 days ago

Everything at once!
