Honestly, this community is great, feel like I can breathe and have some real discourse again

I’m already more active in 2 days of Lemmy than I was in 5 years on Reddit. Loving this community.

Same but in a matter of hours. I'm sure my enthusiasm will wear off at some point. Not enough people yet to just lurk, we have to make the content too.

You mean to tell me you don't enjoy repetitive shitposting, hivemind opinions, and blatant ragebait engagement posts? :)

I too am really excited for this site. The community has been wonderful so far.

Hopefully some instances will filter some of that toxicity out. 🤞

Agreed!

I've seen a few posts suggesting that related communities should be merged, but I think their current fractional states help to mitigate some toxic behaviors.

There's more accountability in smaller groups, and less impetus for negative attention-seeking behavior.

I also wouldn't want them merged. But I would find it great if I could kind of curate my own "front pages". E.g. creating a page for myself called "Technology" and adding all the tech communities that I follow to it so that I can see all posts in one place.

A multi-lemmy you mean, will probably come in time! The project will continue to be developed by the opensource community

Would be really cool! Until then I enjoy Lemmy as it is. I'm happy to have found this place including the awesome community here.

Reminds me of using the internet years and years ago, finding small communities I liked, joining them and feeling compelled to contribute... I didn't even realize I missed it.

Exactly how I feel. Getting on here, learning the ins and outs of Lemmy and the Federated system, and being involved is something I look forward to doing during the day. As opposed to the mindless scroll just to fill time.

IT feels like the early days of reddit.

Or before that the early days of digg.

Or before that the early days of fark.

Or before that the early days of sa.

And so it goes...

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 year ago (2 children)

Maybe. But let's enjoy the early days to the fullest then.

Its a good thing. Forums dying and the community moving on is a good thing. Things don't need to last forever for them to be good, now. I think of it like a cleansing event; like a forest fire or flood.

Very well put

I’ll admit, I’m in my 30s and never went on fark, never heard of sa

Something Awful. was a website with a front page that had memes and the ability to comment on them. I think it ended up going in a bad way. I don't think I've been there since the 90s.

And before Fark there were the craigslist forums.

Will surely try to post more. This is my 1st.
