RULES (updated 01/22/25)

  1. Be respectful: no harassment, hate speech, bigotry, and/or trolling. To be concise, disrespect is defined by escalation.
  2. Encourage conversation in your OP. This means including heavily implicative subject matter when you can and also engaging in your thread when possible. You won't be punished for trying.
  3. Avoid controversial topics (politics or societal debates come to mind, though we are not saying not to talk about anything that resembles these). There's a guide in the protocol book offered as a mod model that can be used for that; it's vague until you realize it was made for things like the rule in question. At least four purple answers must apply to a "controversial" message for it to be allowed.
  4. Keep it clean and SFW: No illegal content or anything gross and inappropriate. A rule of thumb is if a recording of a conversation put on another platform would get someone a COPPA violation response, that exact exchange should be avoided when possible.
  5. No solicitation such as ads, promotional content, spam, surveys etc. The chart redirected to above applies to spam material as well, which is one of the reasons its wording is vague, as it applies to a few things. Again, a "spammy" message must be applicable to four purple answers before it's allowed.
  6. Respect privacy as well as truth: Don’t ask for or share any personal information or slander anyone. A rule of thumb is if something is enough info to go by that it "would be a copyright violation if the info was art" as another group put it, or that it alone can be used to narrow someone down to 150 physical humans (Dunbar's Number) or less, it's considered an excess breach of privacy. Slander is defined by intentional utilitarian misguidance at the expense (positive or negative) of a sentient entity. This often links back to or mixes with rule one, which implies, for example, that even something that is true can still amount to what slander is trying to achieve, and that will be looked down upon.

Im out on adventure! I left my high desert for Kentucky and got the piss taken out of me by the humidity right away.

It was my birthday yesterday so we started in Louisville and had a delicious lunch at Main St Eats, then we went to an art museum, photographed a giant golden pp, and took a sweaty walk down by the river. Next we went to the Mega Cave Neon Zip Line Tour. My first time zip lining - I was definitely at the edge of my tolerance for fear and heights! So cool though, zip lining through the darkness with neon lights and rave music was a once in a lifetime experience. I swear some of the rope bridges were scarier than the zip line though. At dinner I also saw a delightful little red cardinal for the first time and it was amazing to me.

More adventure lies ahead - tonight we are taking a star light tour in Mammoth Caves.

I feel like the luckiest dog on earth.

Enjoy the Mammoth caves! I went as a kid and it was a lot of fun. If I remember right, though, the humidity only gets worse in there... It certainly is a big change going from dry heat to the humid summers of that region, but depending on how long you're there it can do wonders for skin and hair so hopefully you get to at least enjoy that perk for a little bit

My work week is done, so I'm enjoying my days off! Quite a few updates for games I love came out; so I'll be playing those. I also bought Astroneer to enjoy in between playing No Man's Sky and Coral Island. Despite not sleeping well today, I will still get stuff done, so I am free to enjoy the games I mentioned previously.

Going to see Deadpool and Wolverine tomorrow in a relatively empty theater (the majority of movie goers are choosing IMAX and an evening showing). This will be a great week in my opinion as an introvert, I find it to be the best.

Like shit as usual. Nothing happens and still alone.

Still alone like single or still alone like you're enjoying a moment of peace and quiet?

I'm currently feeling overwhelmed. I said to my wife I wish we knew the neighbors, so she made a "donut party" and invited her friends and the neighbors. I'm also feeling overwhelmed because I took over a tech event and I'll be in front of a crowd of tech folks. I'm introverted.

I hate parties and groups and yet I keep throwing myself to the wolves.

Dude alone, alone, no friends, virgin, unemployed, living with my family and I bet I'm at least your age or older. You're living the good life in comparison.

Started my week with 15-hour days working to remediate damage from the Crowdstrike issue. Ending my week with a new tattoo and a vasectomy. It's a helluva week

[–] [email protected] 4 points 6 months ago (1 children)

When I got my vasectomy, the doc told me to get two ice cold cans of beer, one for the big boy, one for the little boy. Works just as good as frozen peas, so I hereby pass on said knowledge.

Hah! Excellent knowledge that I will definitely be putting into practice today. Many thanks kind stranger

My pleasure, and a speedy recovery to you!

Pretty damn great. My last day in the office, forever homeoffice starting in 55 min!

So far, all good.

There's the usual bumps and issues that always crop up. This week, my main 32" gaming monitor decided to start showing a brighter ring around the edge, I suspect the panel glue is separating. Luckily it's still in warrant, so today I got onto that and talked to them, they're taking it back.

But hey, got a vaccination appointment for my elderly (13y) cat for tomorrow, helped a friend clean out the spare room they have so they can start furnishing it, and on Saturday I'm helping my ex with swapping the use of two rooms in their flat in preparation for getting cats next month.

Also reconnected with a friend I had not talked to in forever, so that's a really nice thing.

And am still playing a lot of FFXIV what with Dawntrail out now. Which I love, it's a really neat expansion IMO.

Hope your week is good, everyone!

Not bad so far. I’m going out of town for the weekend for a bachelor party. As Detective Roger Murtaugh said, though, I’m too old for this shit.

Tried to cut off my hand on some sheet metal and it took a couple dozen stitches and two tries to get it to stop bleeding.

I hate that feeling you get when you do something like this and now you get to think "You know what, I didn't really need this right now."
