What is a ruin? We’re running off of “You know it when you see it” at the moment. Ruins should be non-functioning structures of some age, or their function reduced to tourism and the like. Generally speaking, specific items from a ruin should go to [email protected] Illustrations of ruins (or their reconstructions) should go to [email protected] Photos of ruins back when they were functioning should go to [email protected]

This is on the Incan trail just below Phuyupatamarka towards Intipata. Machu Pichu is about a day's hike in the opposite direction. First pic is looking down heading toward MP. Second is taken roughly from where the bend is in the OP pic, looking back up towards Phuyupatamarka.

Wow, second picture really helps to show how steep the stairs are.

Thanks for sharing additional information!

It is steep everywhere there, but Huayna Picchu is pretty wild! I'm terrified of heights (in buildings i suppose) but had no problem here. 1st pic is pointing at Huayna Picchu and roughly where the 2nd pic is taken from. 2nd pic is looking down at Machu Picchu from part way down of the peak of Huayna Picchu (wide angle lens was used so perspective is embellished upon...but everything was straight down anyways. Note the (US size 11) shoes overhanging on the stair)
