They got their money by being cheaper and easier than piracy. They have relinquished that.

I phased it out quickly last year by cancelling.

Me too.

I’m sure there was stuff that I’d enjoy, but finding it was near impossible.

At the end of the occasional thing I’d watch to the end, an irrelevant ad for something else jumps up. Kin annoying.

Oh man, i was really early into using netflix, i had to use a vpn for the first year or so because it wasn't available where i live. Back then i thought this is gonna be a steam situation where i stop pirating stuff for good. How innocently stupid i was

Stremio is a great app for those of you who need an alternative to streaming services

Well, looks like I'll have to speed run Brooklyn 99.

I've been meaning to cancel but i don't want to leave my wife empty handed. I barely watch anything on netflix myself and didn't have an issue with €8 up until €11, but now it's beyond what i'm willing to pay.

I imagine that’s quite a common situation.

Teach your wife how to sail, we had the same situation

I finally was able to convince the wife to drop hulu live tv and just get a full year of hulu and also Netflix with the ads as an alternative. Can anyone comment on how bad the ads are?

What is enshittification?

The phenomenon of online platforms gradually degrading the quality of their services, often by promoting advertisements and sponsored content, in order to increase profits. (Cory Doctorow, 2022, extracted from Wikitionary) source

The lifecycle of Big Internet

We discuss how predatory big tech platforms live and die by luring people in and then decaying for profit.

Embrace, extend and extinguish

We also discuss how naturally open technologies like the Fediverse can be susceptible to corporate takeovers, rugpulls and subsequent enshittification.
