From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Linux is a family of open source Unix-like operating systems based on the Linux kernel, an operating system kernel first released on September 17, 1991 by Linus Torvalds. Linux is typically packaged in a Linux distribution (or distro for short).

Distributions include the Linux kernel and supporting system software and libraries, many of which are provided by the GNU Project. Many Linux distributions use the word "Linux" in their name, but the Free Software Foundation uses the name GNU/Linux to emphasize the importance of GNU software, causing some controversy.

Support for coreboot can't come soon enough. My fingers are already tingling in excitement for that day.

Until then

Also adding the not available Purism Librem Laptop lol.

Or Thinkpads up to T430, they work pretty okay.

Or a ton of Chromebooks (with lots of drawbacks like bad keyboard, underpowered, low storage, bad repairability)

They are in the EU? Damn I thought US

btw anything from India, Africa, Australia, south america etc?

[–] [email protected] 2 points 2 months ago

I just checked, they are in the UK, so not EU (anymore)

I'm not sure about Linux laptop manufacturers in India, Africa, Australia, south america etc from the top of my head, sorry

Is it even coming? They don't seem very interested

We actually already have an experimental coreboot port on the FW 13 AMD.

And, from my understanding, Framework has sent over a device to make this possible.

However, I don't know if it will ever get official support. Though, surely, I hope it will.

Thank you for this info! I expected this to be more feasible on the Intel models for whatever reason. Glad to see a glimmer of hope for the AMD platforms.

Historically, in the past few years, for devices that support coreboot, we've had more Intel models than AMD models. So perhaps that's were your hunch stems from.

Yes, exactly this, though I know Jeremy Soller from System76 has been working on Coreboot for AMD UMA platforms a couple years back.

There's hope, still 😅

I liked this style of ad. Just sitting down and explaining all the interesting features and engineering improvements.

The exiting part will be if they launch a passive cooled arm based laptop.

[–] [email protected] 8 points 2 months ago

I don't even need passively cooled, solid state airjet cooling would be perfect for a <20W arm machine.

I preordered the new screen for my 2nd-gen. This is all great news!

I'm more interested in the 16, which has dedicated GPU support
