Fuck David Benioff and D.B. Weiss forever

[–] [email protected] 10 points 3 months ago (3 children)

Who are these people and why?

[–] [email protected] 18 points 3 months ago (2 children)

they killed the entire game of thrones universe by doing a final season quickly to "wrap things up" so they could move on to bigger and better things.

i think they had a starwars movie deal, but after they butchered GoT that got pulled back.

[–] [email protected] 11 points 3 months ago (1 children)

For real? If that's true then they fucking deserve it.

[–] [email protected] 8 points 3 months ago (1 children)

Disney and Douche&Douche both claimed otherwise, but anyone with a pair of eyes could see that their deal dissolved pretty publicly after Season 8 concluded.

Truly Season 8 wiped the biggest cultural phenomenon off the map. Who even mentions GoT unless it's to marvel at how badly they fucked up?

For me, it was when folks were in lockdown for Covid. Everyone was rewatching old shows. No one was talking about GoT.
There used to be watch parties... People cosplayed as characters... And then it just vanished.

Hell I'm amazed that there are any other shows being produced based in that universe

Edit: I just realized it's been 2 days since you made your comment. Sorry for the late reply.

Skill issue

[–] [email protected] 4 points 3 months ago

I mean, to be fair, they also created it and made it awesome in the first place. They just became arrogant and stopped listening to people around them (in the end that included the actors, HBO and George R.R. Martin).

Game of Thrones show runners.

Creative resources you choose to write off. At best they are the worse case scenario you choose to hate.

Never again.

Fuck you Netflix, and finish the OA

[–] [email protected] 5 points 3 months ago

No literally

[–] [email protected] 2 points 3 months ago (1 children)

I literally laughed out loud.

The star walked away and did "Murder At The End of the World." She has a small but pivotal role and directed three of the episodes.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 3 months ago (1 children)

The star always wrote the show with her cowriter zal. She also wrote all of murder at the end of the world.

SAY HER NAME!!!

i kid

I hope it’s better than their last finale…

Is there really any reason then to view this series if one's already watched the Chinese version? I thought that one was pretty phenomenal, and felt like the Netflix version couldn't possibly compare

[–] [email protected] 8 points 3 months ago

Like most American remakes, it’s slightly dumber but more pleasant looking.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 3 months ago (1 children)

I preferred the Chinese version. Hollywood's take didn't have the same atmosphere and the pacing was weird.

They never let you soak in any particular moment, time, or place. Every little plot line or detail that could be cut, was. It felt to me like a very long tldr or a string of trailers glued together. So many trailer-style corny one-liners.

I'm sure I'm forgetting some parts that were actually enjoyable, but I feel like I wouldn't have missed out on anything had I not watched it.

Thanks for the detailed reply! Those were basically my assumptions, but good to know from someone's opinion I feel I can trust. Definitely gonna skip on it and keep waiting for Tencent's season 2. I'm so hyped for the next book 🤩

[–] [email protected] 10 points 3 months ago* (last edited 3 months ago) (1 children)

Oof I'm beyond hyped for this show . So many ways it could go , so many ways it could end , so many things that could happen , so many characters to meet etc if anyone here has read the books stfu and don't talk to me (about it until the series ends ).

[–] [email protected] 7 points 3 months ago (2 children)

Oh my fuckin god, if you're into sci-fi then you're in FOR THE BIGGEST TREAT OF YOUR LIFE!

This series is damn amazing. I didn't read the book myself but I listen to audiobooks and recaps/explainations on YT. And I can tell you that this is NOT your typical space sci-fi "mankind vs. alien" motives. It's so....SO much more.

The Netflix series has changed a lot of original material to be more appealing and relatable to western audience, and I don't blame them.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 3 months ago (1 children)

I've been listening to the audiobooks and more than anything else I've been struggling with keeping track of the characters due to the names being so Chinese. It's very Western of me, but I can't remember any of the names from minute to minute.

I also think the narrator is kinda meh, and that's important in an audiobook.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 3 months ago* (last edited 3 months ago) (2 children)

LoL aren't we all the same. I'm Asian (not Chinese) and sometimes I can't keep track of Western names in movies and shows, too. :))

[–] [email protected] 2 points 3 months ago (1 children)

I'm sure.

I try to be open - I really do. But it's hard!

[–] [email protected] 1 points 3 months ago

I have ADHD. I gave up on the Hobbit at the dinner with the dwarves. It was like trying to read Egyptian lol.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 3 months ago

Hah, I can't keep track of any names, native tongue or not.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 3 months ago

Ooh yeaaah I might even read the books after the show is over and the opinion is books was better.

[–] [email protected] 9 points 3 months ago (1 children)

Sincerely hoping these two two don't give the final season the GoT treatment. Yeah they have the material this time, thankfully... just don't give these guys a movie contract so they can squirrel.

[–] [email protected] 7 points 3 months ago

I'm not going to watch it until it's finished and had good reviews.

#Neveragain.

This is the best summary I could come up with:

The streamer has greenlit additional episodes that will eventually wrap the acclaimed sci-fi epic from David Benioff, Dan Weiss and Alexander Woo.

“Ever since we read the last page of Cixin Liu’s magnificent trilogy, we hoped we’d be able to bring the audience to the end of the universe with us.

In addition, Game of Thrones creators Benioff and Weiss have renewed their overall deal with the streamer to write, produce and direct new series and films.

Added Peter Friedlander, vp of scripted series at Netflix: “The extraordinary 3 Body Problem, brought to life with the deft hands of Benioff, Weiss and Woo, will soar to never-before-seen heights as they tackle the rest of the mind-blowing journey through Death’s End.

The producers have said they’ve been working on a second season as if a renewal is forthcoming in hopes of hitting the ground running when they get a green light.

Benioff previously told The Hollywood Reporter for a cover story that the second season of 3 Body Problem would be even better than the first: “Liu Cixin’s created this indelible trilogy and the books just get better for me.
