I have a 5-6 year old bonsai that I think needs a hard prune.

Any advice?

Hey post some pictures and give me your USDA climate zone for a start!

Barbados Cherry bonsai on a balcony

I’m in Toronto, so zone 6?

So first of all you'll probably want to give this tree full sun in your zone, and make sure to protect the roots from very cold temperatures in the winter like anything below minus 5 Celsius I would mulch around the entire pot and essentially bury it or put it into a greenhouse if you're able. Ditch the saucer underneath and make sure that it drains water freely whenever you water it. In late spring and summer it will probably want water once a day.

I can give it ~5 hours per day. I have to keep some container underneath to avoid dripping water down onto the balcony below.

Do you have any advice/resources around maintenance, wiring & trimming?
