It wasn't too long ago that it seemed like every couple of months a shiny new MiSTer core or Analogue product was dropping to a ton of community fanfare, but things have understandably slowed down a little bit recently (especially as platforms like the MiSTer start to butt up against hardware limitations).

So I thought I'd ask what, if anything, you all are looking forward to in the FPGAGaming scene these days?

For me personally, I'm really excited to see what happens with FPGAzumSpass' N64 core that's currently in development, especially since it was often considered to be outside of the realm of what's possible with the MiSTer's current DE10-Nano FPGA devboard platform.

Of course there's also srg320's MiSTer Saturn core in the works, but as I'm not that into Saturn because I never had one growing up, I'm a little less hyped up about it.

So yeah... what are you all looking forward to in this space?

Well add to that the Apple IIgs, a better Vectrex core and the myriad of Laserdisc Arcade games.

It's gonna sound stupid, but I'm hoping for a 3DO core and a Philips CD-i core.

I won't mention Atari Jaguar because Jotego will eventually tackle down that beast in the future.

A new PCB standard or something akin to that would be nice. The DE-10 Nano is pretty important to the mister project ofc, but it would be nice to see some open source PCBs even if the design is purely theoretical.

Quite apart from what mister already does, the cores that are in development, or hinted at for later are keeping me hooked.

Consoles/Computers :

  • N64 - I have a real one, but the video output is horrible by modern standards without expensive/risky mods
  • Saturn - used to own one, wish I hadn't sold it, srg320 is doing a great job on this
  • Atari Jaguar - one day jotego will do this, and I don't think he'll struggle too much with it
  • X68000 - puu-san has been working on this forever, but has dropped it for FM-towns in the last year or so
  • FM Towns - just look at how much a real one costs

There's a lot more I'd wish for from the arcade cores though.

Arcade Wishlist :
Space Harrier/Hang-ons
Salamander
Operation wolf/thunderbolt
Enduro Racer
Sega System 24 - Hot Rod, Gain Ground, Bonanza Bros
Sega model 1 - virtua racing, Virtua Fighter, Star Wars Arcade - might be possible, just
Sega model 2 - Daytona USA, Virtua Cop, Sega Rally.... - might be possible, just
Sega ST-V - Virtua Fighter, Die Hard, Golden Axe : the duel.... - it's a saturn, with some bits moved about, riiiiight? ;-)

Oh man, I totally haven't been thinking about those arcade boards!

Reality: N64 & Saturn: Only had PSX back then. Can’t wait to dig into those libraries.

Fiction: Pacland: used to be 10p in every arcade I visited so I played the feck out of it.

Mortal Kombat 1 + 2: MK1 may be possible. Heard MK2 may not be. Who knows…

Save states on C64 & SNES: not likely but C64 really need it. Mainly want it for Creatures 1 & Flimbos Quest & also to save time as a father of 2 kids.

Nintendo play choice 10: 30p for guaranteed 10 (or was it 20?)mins playtime. Was great value.

Jotego looks to be close to releasing the Simpsons core. I really love that game.
