My first ever Black Templar is done! It was a lot of fun to paint. I wanted to do a kind of old, weather beaten look with a leather cowl and stuff as well as some extra little bits an pieces. I didn't have any transfer sheets so I just freehanded a roughed up mark on his pauldron.

Constructive criticism would be awesome! This is my third space marine so far and I think I'm learning a lot each time.!

I like the NMM on the axe, and the dusty build up round the feet. I think I’d like some pops of contrast worked in for the next one, maybe shoulder pads same as helmet, ribbons on the back pack could be red.

There’s a fine balance between getting the grimy effect and flattening out your contrast. A good tip I got a long time ago was to take a photo of your model with your phone, then make it black and white and see if it still works for you.

That's a great point! I just found on my desk there was a little reliquary box with a red band around it that fell off the chain on his back, I think that but of colour would have helped break it up a bit.

The thing about making it black and white is such a good tip too. I will try that on my next one!
