"Thank you ma'am, but I'm being shot at right now."

Exactly! Terrible time to go thirsty!

Interesting, last time I saw this it was tea.

It's obviously hard to tell but the French do drink a sweet low alcohol cider (like 2-3% alcohol) during the day, particularly in summer when it is incredibly refreshing.

On the other hand, they're not huge tea drinkers.

On the other hand though they're keenly aware that the Brits love a good cuppa.

But on the other hand there is no milk in sight which is basically blasphemy to an English gentleman with a rifle to hand.

Edit: lastly, if that is tea, it looks like the kind of tea that is so weak it might cause an Englishman to build a guillotine over.

"When in Rome and all, chaps"

All in all, I conclude that the likelihood is cider.

As a British I'd probably be happy with anything drinkable in that kind of situation.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 8 months ago

In that situation I'd be happy with the steam off a tea bag tbh and absolutely anything drinkable being delivered like that would be like the nectar of the Gods.

He looks British to me. He is using a Bren gun and you can see the start of visor(?) that British helmets have but it's obscured by his pack.

You might be right, I might have saved it with the wrong notes. I'll change the title.

Weirdly, this reminds me of some interactions with Iraqi and Afghan police/military. We had a BUNCH of protocols to go through when handling UXO. But man, if it didn't beat all to see some Iraqi policeman just chuck UXO in the back of their pickup and drive it back for disposal.

[–] [email protected] 23 points 8 months ago (1 children)

For those unfamiliar with the lingo, UXO stands for “Unidentified Xylophone Object”.

I thought it was "untrained Xiaosaurus orthodontists" but on consideration, that's just silly isn't it? Xiaosaurus teeth so rarely need orthodontics.

[–] [email protected] 15 points 8 months ago

UXO = unexploded ordnance

[–] [email protected] 8 points 8 months ago (1 children)

UXO possess a very strong prey drive. If you exude confidence, they're docile and even timid. However, if a UXO senses fear they become very aggressive and volatile.

Ha! I never knew that! Thanks for the interesting lesson. 🤣

In Northern Ireland during the troubles, if a bomb was left on a bus, sometimes the driver would just lift it up and dump it somewhere then drive off (notifying police of course)

[–] [email protected] 4 points 8 months ago

Dang! I guess we can grow calloused to nearly anything.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 8 months ago (3 children)

Ok but why is he doing an army crawl up to it

[–] [email protected] 8 points 8 months ago

My guess is to avoid being shot.

[–] [email protected] 7 points 8 months ago (1 children)

Looks like he's posted as a lookout.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 8 months ago

That makes sense

[–] [email protected] 5 points 8 months ago

He's most likely set as a guard while as his unit moves through behind him.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 8 months ago

Some people are just hardcoded to find nice things to do in crappy situations. And they're in every single conflict you look at.
