Hi, I'm looking to buy a seemingly undamaged car exported from Denmark. I checked its record on motorregister.skat.dk and found a 'Totalskadet køretøj' entry under the Blokeringsstatus section. I couldn't find any specific records of car incidents, where the car could have been damaged.

We randomly checked 29 exported cars from Denmark, and 11 of them had the same 'Totalskadet' record. Out of these, 8 were Toyotas.

Is there a scheme to falsely label cars as totally damaged for export, possibly to reduce taxes? Or is it more likely that damaged cars are being well repaired after the export and sold as undamaged?

How old and price range are we talking about?

If they are old, and low value, it can make sense. A vehicle gets a 'totalskadet' status if a repair exceeds x% of the sales value. Read somewhere recently it is 75%, but it was lowered some years ago, so not sure.

I don't know the price range of fx Toyotas spare parts, but there's many scenarios on inexpensice cars where the repair costs forces a car to be totaled.

The cars I was talking about are placed for ~12k euros, manufactured in ~2016.

Ok, then it has to be quite specific damages, I'd guess.

But I am kind of surprised you can get tax registration returned on totaled cars.

To my knowledge, any car that is sold for export you can get the remaining car tax back, it does not have to be declared Totalskadet.

Toyota's are by far the most popular export cars, and then Mercedes, Audi, and BMW.

If a car is declared Totalskadet in Denmark, the repair cost exceeds 57% of the car's value. Getting a car repaired in Denmark is very expensive, therefore you can find cars that looks like they have little damage, but spare parts and painting makes it too expensive to repair. These cars are declared Totalskadet, and the insurance company get the remaining car tax back, and the VAT, after that the car is sold on auction for the highest bidder.

Some car dealers also export most of the cars that they get from trading to a new car. They do this because making it ready for sale is either too expensive, or they just can't be bothered to do the work.

I remember watching a documentary about this and yes, your assumption is probably right. There's been huge amounts of that 'trick' to avoid high taxation.

Jeg har for nyligt købt en bil, som jeg er helt vildt glad for. Tjekkede de tidligere synsrapporter, og efter de første 10.000 km hvor den havde kørt som leasing bil, får den en under middel status ved indregistreringssyn, og der står som note at den har “adskillige” skrammer, ridser og buler, samt mange buler rundt omkring på bilen, såsom døre, dørindstigninger (how?), skærme, forkofanger og bagkofanger.

Det ville være enormt dyrt og tidskrævende at oprette, specielt i indstigningen, og jeg kan INTET se af de buler der skulle have været i sin tid. Det får mig til at tro der også er svindlet her.

Om det så er leasing selskabet eller køber af bilen i sin tid, som har svindlet, ved jeg ikke

For nogle år siden (hmm, ok, snart 10 måske, men alligevel) importerede jeg en udenlandsk bil, og snakkede med 2 forskellige folk der laver toldsyn, og jeg nævnte at standen faktisk ikke var god, og begge to stoppede mig dér, og sagde at den skulle være voldsomt hærget for at få status som under middel.

At så snart man sætter den under middel så vil Skal have ekstra billeder, og meget mere dialog, som vil trække det flere uger ud, og de gad ikke alt det bøvl, fordi det var så svært at få godkendt og tog bare så meget tid. De sagde at de ville angive den som middel eller ingenting.

Måske processen er lavet om siden, men det var hvad jeg fik at vide, af folk der laver den slags til hverdag.

Og som en pudsig detalje; den ene sagde, at hvis du sætter bilen til over middel, så får du nøjagtig samme besvær og ekstra dokumentation og længere behandlingstid. Han nævnte derfor er biler altid middel, og sådan er dét. Jeg kan ikke lige se et scenarie, hvor det er relevant at snyde sig til mere registreringsafgift, dog.

Det lyder bøvlet. Min case er fra 2018, så det lyder som om det måske er anderledes hvis den allerede er indregistreret i DK, uden afgift.

Gad vide om jeg ville kunne ringe til pågældende sted og få billeder af det? Ikke at jeg ville kunne bruge det til noget, det er bare lidt besynderligt.

Totalskadet is for insurance purposes. When a car is deemed totalskadet it is "locked" in the danish vehicle registry, and the registration tax is not redeemable upon export. The car must be rebuilt to be allowed to drive in Denmark again. Thats how I understand it and not necessarily 100% correct.
