There are four sanctioned ways, all wildly different:

1. Neat from the freezer.
2. Neat from the cupboard.
3. Added to black coffee.
4. Long drink mixed with lemon soda (‘flyversjus’).

1+2 are most common. It’s used to degrease the palette after eating pickled herring. Yes, we shoot 45% booze with the appetisers. You can image how that party is like at midnight. Whether or not you can stomach 2 is what separates the boys from the men.

3+4 are uncommon, but none the less part of our shared cultural heritage. I kinda like the taste of 3, but it’s very particular. Both of these are from a time when snaps was the only booze (besides beer) available to most people; ‘make do with what you have’ concoctions.

Drink is directly from the freezer in shot glass sized glasses. One chug. It takes some getting used to. 🤢 some people like it, some don’t. It’s mostly eaten with herring :D My great grandmother mixed it with lemon soda. Called them flyers. Drank a glass of this every day her entire life, she got to 98.

Oh you poor poor man, but you drink it straight, extremely chilled if you are just a little bit squeamish. It is great with pickled herring on ryebread, with a curry dressing and an boiled egg. In theory you could pair it with lemon soda to make a flyversjus, but I am not sure it makes it better.

I my friend group we drink snaps, but not this one, this i by far the worst maybe only passed by “dild” but it has its place when we drink. We Call it radiator snaps, so you put it on a nice and warm heater.. then when we get drunk and people begin to say stupid **** we call upon the “radiator snaps” and the person who said the stupid thing must take a shot…
