NGL, that would be such a cool setting to be able to toggle on

Definitely a fun thing to have on but really reduces map usability. I can see this for one of those map games like pokemon GO or Ingress.

Could be just an option under location history. You only go there to check where you have been so no loss in reduced map usability

If you use Waze, you can sign into the map editor and you'll basically see this. You can only edit where you've been so your editable area is kind of a fog of war

Damn right I'd have that enabled all the time... Just need to revisit all the places I've been all over again. Roadtrip!

@TheBrickyard

I don’t see why they can’t use the already existing historical data they have on you.

True, but I'm one of those people that always has my gps settings off when I'm not actively using it. Any excuse to revisit my past adventures

It's not fog of war, but if you go to the timeline and have location history enabled, you can see a map of all the places you've been. So if you're looking for new places to try out that's a good way to start.

There's also a heat map in Google photos where you can zoom in see the photos by location.

Wow that's cool. Thanks!

It could use your Google Photos position history

Check out fog of world, this exists

Damn. I looked it up. It looks awesome. But at least on Google play they're asking 30 bucks. Bit too much for me

It's because they don't do anything with your data, you aren't the product. Most people use this app over many years so when you factor all that in, it's worth it in my opinion.

Actually seems like a cool idea for an app to explore new areas of the city or whatnot.

This is probably not too difficult to implement using openstreetmaps.

I contributed to OpenStreetMap when it was totally blank in my area and I was the only contributor. I used to let a GPS datalogger running and map every single trip. That was kind of like this. It was really addictive.

Would be kinda fun if you could switch between views

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

That would be awesome.
