Whelp that's it...unlink all your "streaming" apps that use this API cause they're definitely going to share that....

(And is likely the primary reason)

They want to see the biggest sources that people aren't paying to watch...or want data to back up their takedowns.

It makes sense with the recent anime and manga site crackdowns.

It will only help the production commities get more money, and not pay animators a living wage.

I'm surprised they didn't do it sooner.

I thought they already did it, with all their privacy policy entailed.

On that note, is there any similar service that doesn't do that? Never found one. Kitsu.io is open source but chockfull of trackers, ani.db fits the criteria but doesn't have the same connections available as MAL (like with MALsync and such), and MangaUpdates's anime tracker got taken down years ago.

Seems like the only option is hosting Kitsu yourself.

I just use the German site randaris.app

.... What kind of trackers,?

Well, other than the privacy policy not being great, Blacklights shows a lot of ad trackers https://themarkup.org/blacklight/url=kitsu.io

That sounds interesting. How hard is that to do? My only experience is a home komga server

Oh.. Time to look for an alternative I guess.. I don't have it linked to anything except some manga on Tachiyomi, but that's still not okay. Very disappointing. I also *really *like how they're using an external site to announce this and don't mention this on their actual site. Very nice

God damn it. Can't we have anything nice?

I thought they were just paying someone to half assedly maintain MAL for the last few years, but it turns out they were paying someone to build a back end and create a browsable database so they can sell user's information for their own profit.

Doesn’t surprise me. If something is free you are the product after all
