Our galactic citizens have requested more specific rules, so here are a few.

The general idea is, if you're looking here for rules, you're probably someone who doesn't need to have them spelled out. You're fine. But anyway:

  1. This is a community for Star Wars memes. This means typically screenshots of Star Wars media with some text or context that's meant to be funny and/or thoughtful. All SW media is welcome: movies, games, comic books, fanart... Other kinds of content, like video links or meta memes (about this community, or Lemmy), are fine as well, just keep it on topic.

  2. We are all friends here, and love (sometimes love to hate) Star Wars. Be nice to each other.

  3. As fans of fictional media, we can be passionate. If you very strongly disagree with something or someone, take a deep breath before reacting. Anger leads to the dark side!

  4. Everything in Star Wars has happened a long time ago, in a galaxy far away, and it's a rich universe of millions of words and millions of years of history. So current Earthly matters really shouldn't concern us here. In other words, leave politics, philosophies and convictions behind the door. This applies even if it's about something related to Star Wars.

  5. Original content is preferred. Reposts are fine, just please limit to a maximum of 3 per day, per citizen. It is recommended, but not required, to mark original memes as (OC) and reposts as (repost).

  6. Local mods are the Jedi council. They may take actions that are necessary to maintain peace and stability of the Republic, even beyond the rules outlined here. Follow their guidance.

  7. Regular rules of the Lemmy.world instance apply.

I like ep7 honestly. It has problem, but it's also...fun? Ep8 is pure nonsense(carpet bomber in space...? Jedi leia?) and it makes me drop the whole franchise. I heard ep9 is even more nonsense.

I fell asleep watching ep1 lol.

Just wait until you're old and there's a new wave of kids for whom the sequels are a core part of the franchise. It's been freaky to watch it happen with the prequels.

The sequels are kind of the opposite of the prequels.

  • Set after the OT
  • First 2 movies are good but last one is trash
  • Terrible overarching plot but cool in the moment to moment
  • Terrible background lore (how did we even get here??)

There are so many great ideas on the new trilogy that are just thew there on the movies and never expanded into a coherent story...

It seriously implies it would spark joy.

A New Hope and Empire Strikes Back are fucking incredible. Return Of The Jedi has pacing issues but gets a pass for closing out the trilogy.

The prequels are enjoyable trash. Which was intended... mostly. But even as a kid at the time, some bits were rough. The parts that little idiot baby me enjoyed have not necessarily aged well. The "prequel memes" revisionist appreciation works anyway, because it's six hours of exactly what George Lucas wanted, and that's neither a good thing nor a good idea, but it is fascinating.

The sequels... are fanfiction. 7 thinks characters are also fans, so e.g. Finn is impressed by holograms as if you'd be amazed by flatscreen TVs. The Last Jedi is an anarchist critique of Star Wars that somehow got made into an actual Star Wars film. There's a really great film lost somewhere in the edit. 9 is a toddler telling a story: 'and then, and then, but nuh uh, and then...' That's why lil' JJ, age 4, keeps repeating the fake-out death trope he just learned.

TL;DR:

OT - great, fantastic, good.

PT - C+, C-, B-.

ST - good tone, good script, good god.
