On November 19, 1992, 23-year-old Anna Lee Manning vanished from Danville, Kentucky. Earlier that day, she had spotted her aunt across the street from Chin's Jewelry and called out to her, saying she wanted to talk to her about something. Anna was supposed to visit her aunt later that day, but never showed up. She was accompanied by an unidentified white male the last time she was seen.
At the age of 16, Anna married Anthony B. Manning in 1985. Following this, she and her new husband distanced themselves from her family, to the point where none of them knew where she was living in 1992. At the time of her disappearance, they had a two-year-old daughter and had been separated.
In April of 1992, Anthony allegedly went to Anna's apartment and tried to initiate sex with her, which she refused. Following that, he handcuffed her, led her out the back door, and went to take her purse and their daughter to his car. At this point, she was able to escape. Anthony was charged with kidnapping and sentenced to 182 days in jail.
At the time of Anna's disappearance, Anthony was still in jail. Her aunt (who had raised her since she was 13), did not believe that she would have left without telling anyone, and would not have left her daughter behind. It is important to note that she may have been suicidal at the time, but authorities believe she was a victim of foul play.
