I noticed I'm not seeing communities from .ml, I'm assuming it's because it's defederated. Is there a list available?

I think they've just been overloaded/buggy it's nothing to do with this instance.

Teething problems. Being at the forefront of technology is a gift and a curse.

Ok, so thought I'd get up early and try while everyone was sleeping.

As things stand search can't find anything from feddit.uk [email protected] or [email protected]

Also having problems with sopuli.xyz [email protected]

Don't know if it was just taking a second to grab it, but I'm seeing local copies of all of the communities you listed. Should be showing in search with just the name now.

Also, looking at the instance list doesn't show lemmy.ml defederated (or any insntance for that matter).

I promise that I was waiting for a while when I was searching earlier. I was even coming back. There's definitely something not working right. Searching from other instances is way smoother. Is it possible that a firewall is being overactive?

I'm of a mind to believe that something is going wrong with the JSON responses. But that's just wild random speculation.

Another great example is if you search for Firefox. On beehaw, two communities instantly come up, here it says no results found.

I don't think so. I just made a quick recording of adding another community from feddit.uk: https://cln.sh/6Kx3ssBk

Luckily this is something that only has to be done once per community. You should be able to see it in search without having to go through this process. If you want to add the beehaw communities you should be able to without issue.

(...and I just realized that I replied to the wrong comment, but no, I don't think it's a firewall issue.)

thanks so much for the video. I definitely wasn't switching to ALL and when I did, I was able to find some of my communities.

They .ml's are federated from your instance. Search [email protected] and wait a few seconds.

I think search is a bit broken right now, things that should come up, aren't. [email protected] isn't bringing up anything.

Connecting to a remote community is just a little bit slow sometimes. It's up and running: https://u.fail/c/[email protected]

seems to work if you just type in the word football; not sure why the ! and instance name are recommended.

https://u.fail/instances has a list with blocked instances, if any are blocked (compare with https://feddit.de/instances). Atm that list is empty which makes me believe that nothing is blocked yet.

I am so confused about this whole situation man.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago

It seems more complicated than it is because of teething problems, I read earlier that they were tinkering and deploying stuff. As things settle, everything will work properly.

I feel you man, hopefully it's just a bit of a learning curve

if you can't see a community from lemmy.ml (or any other server), you can always search for the link to the community on your server! (https://lemmy.ml/c/memes this link for example). Then your server will look up if there's a lemmy or kbin community behind that link and from then on show it.
