Christmas Eve calls for Christmas Eve. I’ve mentioned before how this scent reminds me of Christmas Eves at my grandparents’ house as a kid. The scent just really does it for me, everything about it is wonderful. Great last shave before Christmas.

I was going to use Christmas Eve today, but a tub kill of something else took precedence. I figured I can enjoy Christmas Eve any day of the year, so no big loss 😀

It was that or Noir, and I felt I needed to stay on brand.

SOTD 24.12.2023

  • Prep: warm water
  • Razor: GEM Micromatic Flying Wing/Bullet Tip gold plated
  • Blade: GEM PTFE
  • Brush: RazoRock Beehive 28 mm
  • Lather: Noble Otter - Lonestar
  • Post Shave: Dick Johnson's "God Spray"; Natura Siberica ASB gel
  • Fragrance: Obvious - Un Oud EdP sample

So either nobody shaved on Christmas or no one has posted yet? Either way, here's my SOTD from before my late shift:

1 pass head shave with a festive setup. NO Lonestar and festive? Yes, to me it smells like marzipan. Or at least very close to it. A nice comfortable shave.

The EdP sample smells nice, but I haven't worn it for long before changing into my work clothes. I'll see how I like this one.

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to all of you!

Merry Christmas to you too!

The gold plated Flying Wing is 100% the most festive razor, and I'm a bit jealous I didn't think of it😊

[–] [email protected] 3 points 8 months ago (1 children)

Thanks DJ, have a fun and safe trip.

It really is the only gold plated razor I own - I'm not too keen on golden things, be it jewelry or razors. But vintage razors are an exception, especially this one. The plating coming off in certain places gives it a rugged charm. Plus it works really well for shaving my head and contouring my beard.

Btw, once you get back could you look through your pile of samples? Unfortunately I haven't gotten around to sending you the Reserve Classic, but there's a chunk missing and I can't remember sending it to anyone else.

I'll check Mount Smushmore when I'm back in the low lands 👍

Tub kill.

I've been setting myself up for back-to-back kills -- and tomorrow I'll give myself a Christmas gift of killing a tub of Roam.

It turns out my wife actually likes Hamami. She hasn't said anything about it until today when I showed her these two tubs, bragging about killing them back to back. I still have the aftershave and EdT so that's good.

Today's GEM experiment involved a "corked" blade and non-corked blade. Corked went in the Clog-Pruf and non went in the MMOC. Couldn't tell a difference, really.

Nice shave. I'll probably continue using GEM's for a couple more days (maybe longer because I'll have to pack a razor for a road trip) just to make sure I get them all in. I still have a Pushbutton and the MM24 to use, and I'd like to use the Ever-Ready Streamline again before sending @[email protected] his razors back.

In other news, I've set Lemmy to be restarted every 6 hours. This will keep the federation bug in check until the developers find a fix. Apologies in advance if a restart interrupts your use of the instance, but they should be very quick.

Couldn’t tell a difference, really.

I'm not surprised. The idea of drawing an edge through cork or soft wood is used in knife sharpening to deburr an edge or to remove fatigued metal that is about to fracture. I wouldn't expect shaving to create edge conditions where corking would be very effective. Though I wouldn't do it with a replaceable blade, I can see where stropping (palm, denim, etc.) could make a difference.

Congratulations on the kill! It so happens that Hamami was my last full tub kill (a year ago?)

Thanks for doing this! I noticed that the federation with our Mastodon instance works again. Yay🎉

And congrats on the tub kill. Maybe one day I will know that feeling too 😄

  • Brush: Wolfman WRB2 Bronze w/AP Shave Co MiG 26mm Premium Hybrid

  • Razor: Wolfman Razors WR4/WRH3

  • Blade: Feather Artist Club Professional (3)

  • Lather: Ethos Grooming Essentials - Dragonsbeard - Soap

  • Toner: Thayers - Lemon - Toner

  • Aftershave: Ethos Grooming Essentials - Dragonsbeard Skin Food - Splash

  • Talc: Yardley Gold

2 passes. Face lather. Excellent shave.

Great shave. Dragonsbeard is definitely different IMHO. I really like the lather. I doubt that the aftershave is universally liked. It has some ingredient that actually makes the skin feel tacky/sticky for a few minutes while it dries down. After that, whatever skin food is in there makes the skin feel great. I solved the tacky/sticky problem with talc technology. I like using talc. Except for instances like this one, though, it is more of a luxury than a necessity.

Enjoy your Christmas eve!

That's it. I'm nerd sniped 😅

Ordering talc...

Enjoy your Christmas eve!

You too!

Christmoos Eve

  • Brush: Omega 50014 Travel Boar Shaving Brush, 21mm
  • Razor: Schick Repeating Razor Type B
  • Blade: Schick Vintage 20 Injector Magazine (4)
  • Lather: Sir Irisch Moos
  • Aftershave: Sir Irisch Moos

I've spent a day running after a toddler with a death wish on a sled, eating too much, and playing cards. Not bad at all. A shower and shave somehow always feels better after a day in the snow and today was no exception.

I've come to realise that my choice of gear for this trip was perfect: I love the Moos, the stick format is super quick to use, takes little space in a shared mountain cabin bathroom, and the repeater is a no-nonsense safety razor with which I can get through three passes in three minutes and come out the other side clean shaven and unscathed.

I wish you all a merry Christmoos if you celebrate
