ever since I got a new phone with a headphone jack, been wanting to get a usb c to headphone jack adaptor, still dont have any headphones I can use with my phone
All my headphones are wired so daily. I have a dongle for an iPad I use frequently and it works fine but charging it is a drain.
I much prefer wired headphones, for lots of reasons. My last phone had a 3.5mm jack and I used it daily. My current phone doesn't have one, so I use a USB-C/3.5mm jack converter dongle daily instead. I'll probably buy USB-C headphones next time I'm in the market for them, I guess.
I’ve never liked or wanted a wire connecting me to my phone. It’s irritating and is a hugely negative stim for me, akin to nails on a chalkboard.
As replied under another comment :
I'll be honest... I bought a Poco F4 because the value for money it offered was amazing. Plus, I could unlock the bootloader and shift to a custom ROM whenever I wanted (literally as soon as I could lol. Hate MiUI).
This phone doesn't have a headphone jack, but I was willing to make the jump since my general use of headphones is not as much as earphones. My ears get sweaty or scratchy after more than an hour straight of earphones, and around the same for headphones.
As a result, my overall usage is limited. So, when I got my TWS (paid ₹2000 for an okay pair, no dual device pairing, okayish build quality for the case and an okayish connection. Sound was good tho.)
My situation meant I didn't really use them as much, although they go for almost 4hrs straight. And if I put them in the case, they go for weeks without needing a charge (case has a built-in battery of 1200mAh). So, whenever I think I need the case to charge I just set it up overnight. The only sad part is it doesn't have dual device pairing. I use my laptop and phone together and I'd kill for this feature, but my budget is thin atm.
I know it's not everybody's case, but this is my case. And while I miss the jack, I don't notice the lack of it. Audio quality is good enough for me. The wires were honestly the worst part of my wired experience anyway.
Never. Bluetooth AirPods 100% of the time.
Every day, I have an app that connects the audio of my pc to my phone through wifi and using bluetooth would just make the whole setup unusable for calls + wifi has better range and audio quality than bluetooth. The whole setup is PC->Ethernet->Router->wifi->Phone for ~30 ms of latency and the app is soundwire.
I don't.
I'm a bit clumsy (ADHD) and having a cable attached to my body attached to a €1000 device is asking for trouble. I hate the cable getting tangled up, caught on things etc.
Because sometimes I just want simplicity. If I’m sitting in a room with my laptop, iPad and two phones it’s a freaking crap shoot which one my BT headphones are going to connect to.
But alas, none of my phones have a jack anymore so I use a dongle.
Fwiw there are some pretty solid portable Bluetooth dacs so you don't have to have your phone port plugged all the time.
I dont
Daily until I had to get a new phone that didn't have one.
After that I got an adapter so I could continue using the various 3.5mm headphones thar I already own
I was forced to buy wireless headphones because phones stopped using the 3.5mm jack. I still have a pair of wired earbuds but they're useless now as I only have 3.5mm on my work laptop.
The positive is my new wireless headphones are awesome and work very well, but they're over the ear so I can't use them for snowboarding like I could with my wired earbuds. They charge ultra fast and last up to 30 hours and they come with a 3.5mm jack if the battery dies. You don't get noise cancelling when using the 3.5mm jack but at least it works.
So I typically have two sets of headphones, really nice ones that I use for long travel & low key ones I use daily.
At the time my really nice ones didn't have Bluetooth, but I knew future versions did, so I assumed that problem would solve itself.
For the daily I tried a set a Bluetooth and found them to be mostly ok, but had frequent disconnects and eventually I just got tired of remembering to charge them.
A few years later I figured the technology would have improved, but my problems remained the same. I then accidentally ran one of my buds through the wash and that made things worse. It wasn't the first time I'd run headphones through the wash, but what was previously a $10s of dollars mistake, was now a $100s of dollars mistake.
I now use wired headphones daily and exclusively.
For my really nice ones I don't have to remember to charge them. I just plug them in.
Also, when traveling on buses and airplanes, they sometimes provide onride entertainment. It's not clear to me how wireless only folks utilize that. Sure I downloaded things before I leave, but it's nice sometimes to just plug in.
Someone needs to invent a headphone cord that directly connects to the USB C port. Is that a thing?
It is a thing. You can get a usb-c to audio jack adapter.
I dont have a headphone jack but I have a dongle to use some sound isolating earbuds while I ride my motorcycle my last trip was about 6ish hours and I dont think there are many wireless earbuds that would last that long
The earbuds were like $20 and have an actual nrr my $90 airpods sound way more tinny in addition to not fitting as well and leaking sound
I bought a phone but the jack was busted and doesn't have two bits connected in DAC. It sounds horrendous. Compressor kind of helps. I use it once per 3 months. Usually when my headphones are on low battery and I forgot to charge them.
On my next phone I will propably get an externall DAC.
P.S Playing patapon over the bluetooth is impossible. The delay is too big. Over the wire there wasn't any problem.
When I got my iPhone without a headphone jack, I went out and bought a nice Bluetooth headset. I did use it a lot at the time, but just recently rediscovered it after a couple years lost. It turns out that I prefer speakers for audio/video and only use headphones for calls … for work I prefer wired headphones because they always work, whereas Bluetooth keeps begetting confused whether I am in the office or at home, but that’s not in mobile
I basically stopped using wired headphones when Work From Home became a thing. I kept getting up from my desk and wanting to keep my audio going while wandering around and having wireless is perfect for my small house. I would definitely want to go back to wired if I was commuting or out in public daily though.
I use it every single day. My phone just died, I have a temporary phone with Jack,, but I know my next one won't have one and I'm afraid of that change.
I've tried using an adapter and the quality sucks.
Sorry to derail but what do people think of air gap or air tube wired headphones? Do you think they are necessary?
I use it daily. On the bus, in the library, I can silence my phone by just plugging it in instead of using the volume buttons, I can use it on my PC which doesn't have Bluetooth. I don't have to deal with battery anxiety or weird sensors pausing the song cuz I was vibing my head with the music.
I admit, wireless seems very...user-friendly right now but it's something that has little use for me. I would pick wired over wire anyday
yes, I use the headphone jack on my phone.
I can't abide the idea of paying extra money for a separate device to plug in headphones to use a phone. That's like forcing people to buy a straw to drink their coffee because they're not allowed to drink it from a cup anymore.
I go wired. I use a pair of Sennheiser HD497 headphones I've had for 20 years. They still sound decent with a USB-C adapter at one end. It gets used daily on the train to work, and at work for zoom calls.
Everything about wireless annoys me. The price. The futzing around to pair it. The constant recharging. Having to "prepare" them before going out. The awful encoding artifacts. Radio interference. Walking around looking like an autistic kid with noise-cancelling earmuffs...
I have a lightning-analog dongle on my phone headphones, that works fine. I have another analog headphones on my iPod classic for walks. The terrible catastrophe of taking out the headphone jack is nothing. There's no situation where I'd be listening to my phone and want to charge it, if it's on the charger I have a computer with speakers.
I don't use it anymore because my current phone doesn't have it, and I've had to buy bluetooth headphones. As soon as I get another phone with a jack I'll be straight back to wired.
