Maybe this sounds like something you have heard and dismissed many times, but you must try this out for yourself. However you might be feeling, wherever you may find yourself, whatever the situation, the most powerful thing you can do is to spend one minute intensely focused on your own breath. Just be a witness to your breathing. Whether you are walking, talking, reading, exercising, playing a game, or just sitting with eyes closed, this is one thing that will immensely enhance your awareness and ability to carry out whatever you are doing.
You may find that in this moment it is possible to let go of everything and live totally free and at peace. Because, actually life is happening only now and in this very moment - And if you align yourself with life, there are many benefits to reap. Your thoughts about the future are not real, and most times we actually have very little influence on what happens in the future. By zooming in on this very moment, it becomes clear what is in your hands and what is not.
And the greatest benefit is when we just learn to relax into this moment, and discover a space of being undisturbed. Just appreciating and going with the flow of life, you may even start to feel a little high and wonderful within yourself. Maybe that makes me sound like a hippie or something, but this is truly my own experience. Without smoking or drinking anything, I can quite easily come to a place within myself where I’m feeling quite stoned and exuberant, while still being alert and performing well in whatever I’m doing. The moment I start thinking about the future again, all this is instantly gone.
“Once you let your past decide how you experience the present, you have destroyed your future.” - Sadhguru
Our past experiences and emotions want to repeat themselves over and over. Your mind will trick you into believing those projections will also be your future, which most of the time they won't... Using the breath as an anchor, there is freedom from those thoughts and even much more to be gained. Only thing is that the mind must be trained a little bit in order to be aligned with and stay rooted in this moment, which is the only place where life is and can actually happening.
