Showerthought: abolish fines and bans for critisising referees, but in turn it's mandatory for refs to trash talk managers and players during the match as well.

That's now two people - Matt Hobbs and Lewis Dunk - who have been suspended for insulting Anthony Taylor over his officiating. Wonder who will be next

[–] [email protected] 1 points 9 months ago (4 children)

Honestly, I get it, as an adult we shouldn't lose control over our emotions and insult others. But fucking come on. They have the technology, they can literally watch from multiple angles, multiple speeds, and they still get it wrong. Apologies don't solve the issue and the incompetence is never punished. If the PGMOL want to stop the insults then fix it already.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 9 months ago

I think it’s completely justified to be frustrated if something like this happens time and time again with no signs of improvement. When you add that the offending party is basically invincible with no repercussion for their abysmal performances, you can understand why tempers can boil over.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 9 months ago

100%. I’m pro-VAR, but think referees get more abuse now than prior to its introduction because there really is no excuse. Yes, there’s always going to be subjective decisions that don’t go a teams way, some worse than others, but some of the errors made - including the handful against you - this season have been absolutely farcical.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 9 months ago

But on the other hand, they could just not and still get paid.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 9 months ago

They aren't interested in fixing it. They are interested in protecting their mates and the rot is even deeper than most people realize.

Everyone can see how fucking stupid they are with our own eyes, but don't worry, we do have evidence.

There was a big investigation endorsed by Kick it Out and the FA into the referee observer system, the pipeline that gives us refs from the grassroots to the top and it concluded that they were incredibly racist.

One observer is alleged to have told one referee: “You lot can all run fast, but that’s all you are good for.” Another is claimed to have said: “If you want to progress, you need to cut your dreadlocks.” Another made an offensive comment about throwing a banana

the FA’s 14-strong referee committee overseeing the diversity initiatives has no black, Asian or mixed heritage members. It is headed by David Elleray, a former referee who was sanctioned by the FA in 2014 after allegedly making racist comments to another official.

during one diversity meeting, a senior FA official had suggested that additional black referees could be recruited from among people leaving prison.

The fall out from this? They've "suspended" a whopping THREE assessors in two years.

With just two non-white referees in the professional game, John Davies, a current member of the FA Refereeing team responsible for refereeing observations, allegedly stunned colleagues during a session on anti-discrimination by saying: “I didn’t see any issues with the slave trade” and using the word “coloured” repeatedly.

Davies will serve 12 weeks with eight suspended for 12 months. He is the third referees’ assessor to be found guilty of racist conduct after the FA suspended another, Mick Ewen, for four months for similarly offensive language last summer.

And in January this year, another observer, Frank Smith, was suspended for just 42 days, told to complete an online education programme and fined £35 after he too was found to have used racially offensive language.

These assessors were not sacked. These assessors were not removed. The system saw no change. The old boy's club needs to fucking go.

Pochettino got a yellow because of him as well.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 9 months ago (1 children)

Mourinho didn't like his reffing in the Europa League final last year. I think he made that quite clear by waiting for him in the car park after the game

[–] [email protected] 1 points 9 months ago (2 children)

Which was particularly bananas, since Taylor didn't get anything wrong that night, and lead to his family being attacked in an airport, because apparently blowing a whistle is now a crime worthy of being lynched.

Honestly the more the merrier.

At some point FA has to do something about the standard of reffing.

I mean he's correct

[–] [email protected] 1 points 9 months ago

how long does it have to keep going like this before something changes though? everyone sees something is deeply fucked with refereeing in the PL. the fans see it, the players see it, the staff see it. you can't ban everyone

[–] [email protected] 1 points 9 months ago

Let him talk.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 9 months ago (3 children)

Taylor alleged that Hobbs passed by him as he was leaving the field and remarked: "Absolutely f**** useless as usual."

The referee then outlined to Hobbs that his attitude and behaviour were unacceptable to which he, and assistant referees Adam Nunn and Gary Beswick, allege Hobbs replied: "We look forward to your apology again."

They hated him because he told them the truth

[–] [email protected] 1 points 9 months ago (1 children)

that’s a lot calmer than i’d be if i worked for wolves tbh.

7 points lost in 13 games bc var can’t do their job is ridiculous

Man punished for being right

[–] [email protected] 1 points 9 months ago (4 children)

If the crowd sings "The ref's a jolly old wanker", is the FA going to make the home team play without fans?

[–] [email protected] 1 points 9 months ago (1 children)

I can actually see it get to this point.
They are so intent on not letting the corrupt pricks get abused that its something they would do instead of actually doing their job

[–] [email protected] 1 points 9 months ago (3 children)

They have no intention of doing their job, everyone with eyes can see it. But don't worry, we actually have proof.

Honestly they're so thin skinned if the crowd started chanting "you don't know what you're doing" they'd probably have a mare over it.

Unpopular opinion but all the ref and var hating the is ruining the game.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 9 months ago

Wolves have reason though. Lost 7 points, received more apologies then one hand can count, and it's not even halfway through the season. They'd be tied for 8th place right now with Brighton if that hadn't occurred.

These also aren't games like Newcastle/Arsenal where it's like if Bruno had got the red we "might" have won, it's they weren't given penalties in game they either lost by a goal or drew in and most likely would have scored them to win.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 9 months ago

The refs being the shitest they have ever been is ruining the game.

Show me the lie

[–] [email protected] 1 points 9 months ago (3 children)

I still don’t really understand how he went from being demoted to getting the City Chelsea match and now this. I just don’t understand why he’s being so protected.

people spend all day insulting referees and wonder why things haven’t improved. you haven’t suggested any legitimate fixes, you’re just being rude

[–] [email protected] 1 points 9 months ago

A legit fix would be for them to actually do their fucking jobs.

Use the VAR correctly and they wouldnt get abused. Its a very very simple solution.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 9 months ago

People spend all day licking referee boots and wonder why their mouth tastes like leather

[–] [email protected] 1 points 9 months ago

If already 3 people have been penalised for saying something bad, yet, correct about your employer, maybe they are indeed not doing a good job PGMOL… 🤷

[–] [email protected] 1 points 9 months ago

I'm all for punishing those who abuse refs but at the same time these refs have to be held responsible for the decisions they make. I have no idea why there aren't post match interviews with refs or atleast that they are required to explain their decisions in a written report that the managers can see. It just feels like they have all this authority yet face 0 responsibility with it

[–] [email protected] 1 points 9 months ago

How about all of us get together and banned the FA for being so disgraceful

[–] [email protected] 1 points 9 months ago (3 children)

Multiple people from different clubs have been punished for saying Taylor can't do his job properly, he's in the spotlight almost every time he refs a game, is despised by most of the top clubs including Chelsea which he clearly is biased against, got demoted to the Championship and even got a decision wrong down there before coming back up.

Yet, according to clowns in the media, Anthony Taylor is the first or second best ref in the country. Absolute joke.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 9 months ago

PMGOL seriously needs to take a look within themselves

A) if there training program is producing such shit employees, they seriously need to rethink their training program

B) A quote that stuck out to me over the summer was something along the lines of - if we are ok with taking the best players from all over the world, why don't we take the best refs as well?

[–] [email protected] 1 points 9 months ago

They will tell you these are the best of the best when everyone with eyes can see they are incompetent. How are they where they are? Surely the process must be broken.

Oh wait - we actually have proof.

Iirc it wasn't a demotion but a rotation. So the bald fraud didn't get punished at all.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 9 months ago

Will get at least one game check’s worth of free drinks in Liverpool

[–] [email protected] 1 points 9 months ago

[–] [email protected] 1 points 9 months ago

Sorry guys, we admit we missed multiple big decisions that went against you. Don’t say we can’t do our jobs though or you’re done for

[–] [email protected] 1 points 9 months ago

One game? Hes not a player, what's the point of the suspension?

This is a gutless punishment.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 9 months ago

If the lie doesn't fit you must acquit! If Chewbacca lives on Endor, you must acquit!
