How many in the arsenal squad are world class? Define WC and list:

For me world class means the player would not look out of place starting for Citeh, Barca, RM or Bayern.

Saliba , Saka, Odegaard and Rice.

Arguably none. Saliba and Rice are perhaps the best shouts.

Genuinely refreshing to see someone who actually knows what they’re talking about on here.

What have they won to be considered “WORLD” class?

Saliba and Rice. Saka knocking on the door.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 11 months ago

Nah Saka now, lad has 9 goal involvements in 12 games this season. He's our best attacker and it's not even a contest.

Rice will show his class in the CL, Saliba is close too.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 11 months ago (1 children)

I consider real world class top 5 in the world in their position.

Rice probably slips in there, saka maybe, don’t know about other two

[–] [email protected] 1 points 11 months ago

I think that's typically how I define it too. Saka is easily a top 5 RW. Saliba is easily a top 5 CB. Rice is easily a top 5 DM

[–] [email protected] 1 points 11 months ago

Saka, Martinelli, Odegaard, and Rice imo

[–] [email protected] 1 points 11 months ago

My definition: world-class is a player that's either the best in his position in the world or very close to the best player in this position.
For example, you could argue that Harry Kane is the best striker in the world right now (and that's coming from an Arsenal fan!), but Haaland obviously deserves the same label.
With that in mind, I would say Saka, Rice, and Saliba are there. Odegaard and Martinelli are very close, I think Ben White was in that second group last season too.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Depends on the definition of world class. It has to be quantifiable to be equally applied to all. For example, being in top 1, 2 or 5% of all ballers based on Transfermarkt evaluations. All the rest are subjective, biased and emotional.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 11 months ago

Market prices are definitely subjective so this is a dumb take

[–] [email protected] 1 points 11 months ago

Saka, Saliba and Rice for me. What squads wouldn’t they get in to?

[–] [email protected] 1 points 11 months ago
[–] [email protected] 1 points 11 months ago

I dont think any of them are WC yet, but to me thats an issue of their age and experience. Saka is probably the closest to WC than all of them, then i would put Rice and Saliba after him. Odegaard needs to find consistency in his form. Martinelli needs to improve in more than a few areas, but he's not far away from the conversation.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Real Madrid need investigating for that Odegaard fiasco

[–] [email protected] 1 points 11 months ago

Not really sure they do. He wasn’t better than Modric or Kroos when they sold him and he isn’t better than Valverde or Bellingham now.

Madrid have sold of loads of very high quality players in the past, players that would be stars at other clubs are regularly deemed surplus to requirements there. The bar they have for who makes it there is probably higher than any other club in the world.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 11 months ago

Saka has the potential to be, none other than maybe Rice are world class I'd say.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 11 months ago

I think it's hard to argue that players are world class when they're playing their first CL. Their performances over the next few years will determine their status.

For now they're very good players

[–] [email protected] 1 points 11 months ago (2 children)

Saliba and Rice would definitely count I think. Odegaard and Saka maybe a bit more debatable but I wouldn't go against you on it. Martinelli, Jesus and the like are probably one cut below 'world class'.

Depends heavily on how you define it.

Saliba, Rice, Saka and Odegaard are the best 4 players at Arsenal.

For me world class means the player would not look out of place starting for Citeh, Barca, RM or Bayern.

If that's world class, then every single player who starts for Arsenal would be world class. Arsenal have arguably the 4th strongest squad in Europe after City / Bayern / Real. So, the entire starting XI wouldn't look out of place there.

There's certainly better players in some of the squads, and worse ones.

Only the keeper they benched

[–] [email protected] 1 points 11 months ago (3 children)

None I think the word world class gets thrown around alot. Imo the only worldclass players in the PL are Haaland, KDB, Bernado Silva, Salah and maybe VVD because his levels are dropping. No one else makes it to that list.

To be world class you need to have shown consistency(in years), which no Arsenal players have shown. You also need to have won something, again, which no Arsenal players have. You also need to be reliable under any circumstances. You see how Haaland or Salah can’t be ruled out of coming up something special in any game? That kind. I don’t think any Arsenal players have it in them to do this. They have really good players on their way to becoming world class but I don’t think they’re there yet.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 11 months ago

Harry Kane is a prime example of how you can be a WC player without winning anything.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 11 months ago

Rice. Won conference league last year so has won something. Has been consistently exceptional over more years than Haaland in a more competitive league. Is incredibly reliable and has shown massive leadership quality and stepped up when his team needs it.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 11 months ago

I'm sure Kane is looking forward to finally being world class after transferring to an easy league.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 11 months ago (2 children)

Everyone is sleeping on Partey. Rice hasn't reached his level yet. Partey was the top DM in the league for 3 quarters of the season I'd say. Top destroyer and he also has the silkiness to progress a pass even against the press.

If we're going off of this season alone so far it's Saka, Saliba, and Rice. The squad is filled with players who have the potential to get there though.

I am obliged to say None; but in all seriousness Ødegaard is pretty good.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 11 months ago

The way I look at it, all of the starting XI on any big club is world class. Ignoring salary and transfer fees, any club would be happy to have them. A mediocre player on any of the big clubs would be the best player on a small club in a lesser league.

That’s different from asking if they’re the best 2 or 3 in the world at their position.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 11 months ago (8 children)

Why do people use the term world class when literally nobody has a shared definition of the term.

Then people moan it's used loosely but they themselves can't define it.

Pretty strange argument we all keep having.

No one is really world class yet. Which is why Arteta deserves more credit!

[–] [email protected] 1 points 11 months ago

World Class: the peak, the pinnacle, the best of the best right now in their position.

The list:

[–] [email protected] 1 points 11 months ago

Saka and Rice are the only definites imo. Saliba can get there soon - he just needs to keep up his current level for another 1 or 2 years.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 11 months ago
[–] [email protected] 1 points 11 months ago

You have some knocking on the door I think. Saliba since coming to Arsenal has been fantastic and at his age he could easily be considered one of the best CBs in the world come his prime. Rice as well because he has been at a top level for years and seems to have even take a step up this season. It compounds with the scarcity at that position right now that I don’t think there are more than maybe 2 or 3 players you take in that spot over him. Saka has all the tools and I think the fact he plays LW (LW is scarce right now as this generation seems to be very right footed). Ode have all the tools to be in that conversation but imo they still has to prove he can do it week in and week out and carry big games like Salah/KDB/Haaland do.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 11 months ago

Most people don't watch every Arsenal game and they'll decide based on what they read from everyone else (who also don't watch every game), or maybe they'll catch some highlights. Also, what does World Class even mean?

[–] [email protected] 1 points 11 months ago

None yet. If they do a deep run in UCL and win PL or come very close again I’d throw some names in there

[–] [email protected] 1 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Arsenal does not have 4 world class players.

Saliba and Odegaard could get a look in but Rice and Saka would not start for those teams at all. At best would be squad depth.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 11 months ago

Saliba and Rice

[–] [email protected] 1 points 11 months ago

Saliba and Rice currently. Partey too if he could stay fit, we’re much, much better when he plays.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 11 months ago (1 children)

I think are Saka,Saliba,Martinelli,Jesus,Odegaard and Rice

Obviously quite good at football > world class

[–] [email protected] 1 points 11 months ago (1 children)

No one on Arsenal is world class. World Class is like Harry Kane, Rodri, KDB, Salah, not a signle player on Arsenal is even close to that level. They can get there, but they are not there now.

It's interesting to see the range of opinions of what everyone thinks world class is. Some think there's only been about 7 world class players to have ever existed, others think that every team has at least one.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 11 months ago

Arsenal fans in this thread doin all the mental gymnastics to say there players are world class. 🤣😂
