Hey everyone. I’m looking to get started with a small home lab. I’m a sw developer and want to use Proxmox to have some tinkering environments and a pihole instance.

Is this a good deal to replace my few rpis?

Optiplex 5070 Intel i5-9500T 8GB RAM 256GB Storage $175

Anything I should look out for when buying from Craigslist or Facebook marketplace?

I think it is slightly high on price, but not too bad. Enough RAM/storage to get started, but expect to add more of both. Virtual machines eat more RAM so using containers (LXC or docker) will allow you to run more in 8GB.

That is a great little machine. Plan to upgrade to at least 16GB of ram now (an 8gb sodimm is very cheap), and it can take up to 64GB if you need it in the future.
