Hej, allesammen!

I am a first year student in Denmark and I've been here for about 6 months now, living in Sønderborg.

A mixture of factors like seasonal depression and being away from home has got me really on edge recently. I really want to change this fact and start feeling comfortable here. I'll be studying for the next 3 years after all 😃

I've been studying the language from September and, while I'm not the best, I can say it is quite interesting, so I'll keep on going. I think one of the major factors that will make a difference is to embrace the culture and get immersed. What in your opinion would be the way to do this? And also can you give some recommendations like books, activities, music, food, just everything in general?

I'll be very happy to read your replies!

Thank you for your time!

Welcome to Denmark! You chose an awesome city yo live in with beautifully nature and history all around you. If you are historically interested I would recommend you visit the Dybøl Mølle museum. The island of Als has a very interesting and unique story.

If you want to meet Danes you could volunteer somewhere, red cross, study buddy or something. You can visit the local volunteer house in Perlegade or look at their website: https://sonderborgkommune.dk/frivillighedens-hus

Another possibility is joining a club. I know they have walking/hiking clubs, sports clubs, gymnastics clubs, music clubs and so on 😊
