Hej r/Denmark,

I am seeking real experiences or advice from individuals currently undergoing or who have completed the reunification visa process. While nyidanmark provides precise instructions and conditions, I am also a realist, understanding that there may be differences between the documentation and real practical challenges that could be encountered. To keep it short and sweet as possible, I've provided some backstory and some questions I'm looking for more information below. Enjoy and thanks for any gudiance hehe!

Backstory:

As my username suggests, I am not an EU citizen anymore (unfortunately!) My partner and I have lived together in Copenhagen for almost 18 months in a rented flat. I am originally in Denmark on a Pay-limit scheme visa, expiring in June. Unfortunately, I am currently on the job-seeking supplement, allowing me to seek work for six months on that visa type. My contract ended in December and wasn't extended. From my perspective, I believe I personally meet 4/6 conditions - Education, Danish Language. The only concern is my employment status, as I've been unemployed for a short period. My partner is a Dane, fluent in Danish of course, educated here, and employed full-time with a master's degree. From their side, education, language, and employment are taken care of.

Reviewing the visa requirements, I believe we collectively and individually meet most conditions. It seems almost too good to be true, and I am skeptical that something doesn't add up. I've provided some questions we're looking for advice on, something that is better from personal experiences as contacting SIRI and getting an answer isn't exactly the quickest method.

Questions:

  • What was/is your personal experience?
  • Does the process genuinely take as long as 7 months, as stated on nyidanmark?
  • I've heard the guarantee can also be done through a bank loan instead of a cash deposit. Is this accurate?
  • What supplementary information did you have to provide during the process?
  • Is having Dansk Prove A2 really beneficial in the application?
  • While the process is ongoing, you are allowed to stay in Denmark but not work. What if I find a job during that time? Can I return to my home country and work temporary while it's being processed?
  • If I secure a job in the coming months and transition to a pay-limit scheme visa or highly educated visa, can I simultaneously apply for a reunification visa for added security?

Mange tak for din tid og hjælp! God weekend!
