Just finished the first episode, it's different, I feel like I messed it up for myself for rewatching the og one only a few weeks ago and having that fresh in my head, how ever I am a fan.

So, here are my thoughts on the first episode:

spoilerWhat I like:

Very cool decision with how they did the scenes leading up to the classic first scenes of the animated show. Works really well, and to have Kyoshi be the one who narrates the intro fits perfectly as she is narrating about Roku having died and the next Avatar not having been revealed yet.

Sokka's personality is adapted really well. It's not straight sexism, but rather how a lot of teenage boys in that situation would develop an arrogance of being the one in charge.

The acting by Sokka's and Zuko's actors is awesome. Gordon's Aang is also really good in slow scenes when he gets the room to breathe. There are some scenes where it looks to me like he is rushing through the dialogue, which is a typical directing/production timing problem with kid actors.

What I don't like: Only a few things. For one, Gran Gran's mildly antagonistic role. Not a fan of that.

The scene at the SAT where Aang sees Gyato's remains also feels like it might have been rushed in production or changed in post-production.

The choice to have Aang lead into the final voice over by dubbing (or adding a voice filter) over a scene where he is talking to Katara and Sokka is weird and threw me off.
