MODERATORS

Hey again everyone,

First, I'd like to apologize for my radio silence for the past week or so. I just moved and have been stuck in unpacking land (although I still fit in time to put some aftermarket tail lights on my car!).

Thanks to everyone who participated in the suggestions post. I think there were some great ideas in there that I'd like to implement. Overall, I think this community will remain as broad as possible for the time being. As certain topics / themes become more prevalent, e.g. "how-to" or advice posts, those can be spun off to another community. Lemmy is still very much in its infancy despite all its growth recently, so anyone can form a community with even the most basic names. For instance, I, a random a**hole on the internet, started c/cars!

Below are the theme days we'll start with. I'd like to start with just 3 per week for now to keep posts varied and to keep the discussion & new posts as free-flowing as possible. For now, since the community is still relatively small, and because lemmy doesn't have automated tools for scheduled posting, there won't be megathreads for the theme days. I'm just one mod with ADD and will probably forget to post a megathread at some point.

Theme days! Starting today (July 10, 2023)!

  • Motor Mondays - show off your engine bay!
  • What should I do Wednesdays - Do you need advice from random strangers on the internet about your car? Trying to figure out what car to buy? Wednesdays are your day, my friend.
  • $5k Fridays - show off your wildest/coolest/most ridiculous craigslist or other marketplace finds listed for under $5k USD! (Thanks @Poe)

As an aside, EV owners may post their motors on Motor Mondays, but they must show the actual motors themselves, or something else mechanical on the car. Remove fascia if you have to. Frunks are not acceptable posts.

That's all for now. I really appreciate everyone's input and posts thus far, and I'm excited for where this community is headed! If you have any issues / comments / concerns / questions about the way I'm modding, please send me a dm or otherwise air your grievances on the community. I'm relatively new at this and am open to your suggestions!

Hi Inky! First post on Lemmy and I used to be a perpetual Reddit lurker, especially in r/cars (but hoping to contribute more with the new change of scenery).

I like the themed day ideas but one thing I wanted to take another look at the "what should I do Weds." I know we're still pretty small and have a lack of automation tools but having a rolling weekly or monthly thread solely for automotive tech questions would be very beneficial in centralizing all of that related discussion.

Otherwise - excited to join and contribute and show off my crazy-ass stable of cars!

  • 2006 Pontiac GTO (22k miles with a 6spd)
  • 2013 Volkswagen Jetta (beaterrrr)
  • 1966 Ford Galaxie 500 (all original 390+C6, no brakes lmao)

I think that's a good point; when more mod tools exist, it'll make it much easier to centralize things.

PS gonna need to see some pics of that GTO, sounds sweet.
