Hello,

I am an American currently living in Germany. I have a masters degree in management from a German university and a bachelors degree in finance. My girlfriend (German native) and I are trying to relocate to Copenhagen as she wants to do a PhD. Unfortunately, after many applications I am still having trouble even landing an interview. I am open to nearly all types of work but have mainly been looking for entry level business jobs.

Any tips for applying to jobs as a foreigner would be greatly appreciated.

I think it can be difficult as outsider. Denmark is a country with a shitload of rules for anything, so some guidance would propably be good. Imigrant-rules/workpermits expecially.

As an american youll also find danes very closed people. Hard to get to know. Were polite but reserved. But the saying is, that its hard to break through, but once youve done, you got a friend for life. Germans are maybe a bit the same, so you have some experience.

Servicejobs like waiter or driver of goods, will always be available. But I dont know if thats for you. I think it will be good for you to find a american who has done it before you, and get some tips. Once you live here, I definetely recommend calling, and say you want to come personally with the application. Then you can ask about the workplace. That often gets you an interview.

But hey copenhagen is a great city, you should look forward to that, and if you dont work, enjoy the freetime, and go for long walks. Buy a bicycle, and learn to ride the streets. Best way to get around, copenhagen is the best bikecity. Summertime is the best. Winters are dark and indoors
