"It’s a date that should go down in history — a stain on our collective conscience. On June 14th, 2023, the Adriana, a fishing boat carrying 750 people, capsized in the Mediterranean. The more than 600 deaths were entirely preventable. And yet the world barely flinched."

Yeah, it was in the news, but considerably less attention was paid to this event where hundreds died compared to a few rich people who spent exorbitant amounts of money to look at a shipwreck on a TV screen in an unsafe submersible.

A pretty dismal reflection on our societal values.

I'm not sure that's a good comparison given the unlikelihood (as opposed to any chance) that survivors could be rescued multiple days later
