It comes from the fact Danes tend to be rather mumbly. I find that immigrants generally enunciate their words way better, and that the dialectic tides in general are turning. But it's not an entirely unfair stereotype. I'm Danish, born and raised, and I frequently struggle to understand what they say in Danish films and TV (especially from the 90s and 00s) without subtitles just because they mumble to damn much.
