It's become sort of a meme that whenever Denmark is in international news (especially in the US), it's always either these buildings or a green field with windmills.

The location itself is called Nyhavn, and it's very central in Copenhagen so lots of turists pass by here if they're going to see e.g. the royal palace or the seat of government or the likes. So lots of people end up taking pictures here, which just adds further fuel to the fire.
