Hi!

I see similar posts here from time to time, it's unclear how active this sub is for English speaking people moving or living in Denmark. I would love to get advice or hear about others on their experience moving to Denmark from the US. We are middle-aged and artists, so we have a lot of personal belongings we wish to take with us. We also have two older cats that we refuse to leave behind. My spouse has Danish citizenship and I will be applying for permanent citizenship in Denmark.

Some examples of what I am curious about:

  • where did you get your biometrics done? I am in the PNW and the nearest consulate is in Palo Alto. The ministry of foreign affairs website (in Denmark) doesn't have a working hyperlink to alternate options. We plan on calling them, but that doesn't negate my interest in other's experience
  • if you moved the contents of your home, how did it go? Which relocation service did you use, or did you just ship boxes of personal items?
  • did you fly pets out there, and if so, how did it go?

I have a ton of other questions-- but these are the big ones currently.

Thanks!

I am an American looking to connect with other Americans who have made this move; mostly about moving logistics and paperwork hurdles. Apologies for posting in English.

I didn't feed them. I was afraid it would make them sick and as long as they are traveling less than 24 hours it should be okay. Nothing is ideal, so you should figure out what you are comfortable and what you think will be the best for your cats.

I don't quite remember what I did about the litterbox problem. I might have used a mini litter box but I think that I put a diaper in the bottom of the carrier instead. And then brought extra so I could change it in case they used it. As I remember it, none of them used it.

One of the cats I flew from SF => Chicago => Copenhagen. I think it was around 22 hours. The other one was less. I didn't like it and I was nervous about it but the cats did alright
