I see similar posts here from time to time, it's unclear how active this sub is for English speaking people moving or living in Denmark. I would love to get advice or hear about others on their experience moving to Denmark from the US. We are middle-aged and artists, so we have a lot of personal belongings we wish to take with us. We also have two older cats that we refuse to leave behind. My spouse has Danish citizenship and I will be applying for permanent citizenship in Denmark.
Some examples of what I am curious about:
- where did you get your biometrics done? I am in the PNW and the nearest consulate is in Palo Alto. The ministry of foreign affairs website (in Denmark) doesn't have a working hyperlink to alternate options. We plan on calling them, but that doesn't negate my interest in other's experience
- if you moved the contents of your home, how did it go? Which relocation service did you use, or did you just ship boxes of personal items?
- did you fly pets out there, and if so, how did it go?
I have a ton of other questions-- but these are the big ones currently.

Her tænker jeg mest i forhold til om det er "ikke kommerciel" flytning.
Der er en chance for at min kæreste flytter hertil fra usa inden for det næste års tid. Og det vil indebære 3 katte.
Det virker lidt som en niche-case i den forstand at kattene skal flyttes hertil, og ikke med hjem til usa igen. Men at min kæreste jo ikke nødvendigvis er garanteret at kunne bo her på lang sigt. (Hvis der bliver problemer med familiesammenføring m.m.)
Der står at det kan være et krav at man dokumenterer at ejeren ikke har tænkt sig at overdrave til en anden person, men det er jo i teorien et muligt udfald. Men ikke det vi håber på overhovedet

My husband and I have joked about how its easier to get the cats to Denmark than it will be to get me there...
We are prepared for the paperwork and legalization process for me to be extensive and stressful.

It really is quite a jungle.
You guys lived together in the us for a while?
Me my so are LDR. Have spent like 6 months together irl spread out over longer and shorter stays. I feel like that gives us a disadvantage but I don't know.
Are you guys using a lawyer or the like? I know some lawyers here specialize in the process and help with it. But presumably a pricy affair so not sure if we gonna go that way or not

kjyyu4fWe haven't discussed getting a lawyer for this, I really hope we don't have to do that.
On the other hand, we really need a financial advisor to help us navigate what to do with our American retirement accounts...the laws around that, in both countries, are pretty overwhelming.
My spouse has lived in the US since 2001. He didn't apply for US citizenship until Denmark made it legal to have dual citizenship. We are a little worried about some of the news laws in Denmark making it a possible problem given that he has not lived in DK for over 20 years.
