Hi Lemmy.world admins! I'm an admin over on lemmynsfw.com. We've been getting a handful of reports on posts on our instance from lemmy.world users, all with the subject "Spam or Abuse", and in all but one case the post was neither spam nor abuse.

Could there be something weird with federation going on? It doesn't seem like malicious reporting and it doesn't seem to be following any pattern that we can tell. It's just weird.

It's probably from the lemmy app wefwef. They recently added the ability to report things and the default option is "Spam or Abuse" while the secondary option is to put in a custom text.

That makes sense! Except like I said, these posts (but the one) are not even marginally spam or abuse, so maybe there's bug, like they're trying to report a different post and wefwef is sending us the wrong info.

Just had a look at wefwef and the report option is right next to the share one. Reasonably high chance people are trying to share and just hitting the wrong thing? Especially if their muscle memory already knows "share" is the bottom in that list and "report" has just been added.

That said, there was a bug a few weeks ago (before all the apps, so just on the website) where users were seeing random "report created" popups just while browsing around Lemmy, without clicking or doing anything. I'm not sure what the resolution was there in the end, but if wefwef has somehow introduced a similar bug...

I'll bet you it's because people are lazy and just click that button instead of spending time to type out why they reported.

Source: Definitely accidentally clicked that button when reporting.
