What does "on the cards" even mean?
I assume they meant "in the cards" as in: something that will be happening in the future.
"on" predates "in" (1590s vs 1730s) and is more widely used, by a large margin until 1950, and then by a narrow margin since.
Oh that's interesting. I've always heard it "in".
