No it's not new, I think they were just trying to say they like the feature.
Considering how the title came out I wouldn't be surprised if they think it is new.
They should remove the words “adding the”. So the sentence would be “I really appreciate Firefox ability to enable custom search”. The way they phrase it sounds like Firefox has recently added the custom search engine function.
Yeah it could have been phrased better. But, no harm done.

@Boomkop3 Evidently, there was a way to do it but I could never figure out how. Now, you just go to a search engine you want to make as a default, open up the address bar drop-down for that search engine and there should be a button at the bottom of the drop-down menu that has the favicon for that search engine with a plus icon. Then, from there, you just set it as the default in the way you would with the built-in options!
Nice! User interface design fixes can be the most impactful sometimes
