Ignorance. Choosing actively to not engage with society to the point where you dont know whom you support or whom youre being antagonized by will not serve you well.
Also, sounds like this place of business is toxic as shit.
I'm gonna call bullshit.
The bar for what qualifies as "social engagement" these days is unreasonably high. The proliferation of engagement-driven social media and it's subsequent exploitation by propagandists has raised the standards for keeping up with events from "be aware of current events" to "be a culture warrior and if you're not on my side you're evil".
A person can live a fulfilling and valid life without engaging in the constant culture war. A person who chooses to abstain will be happier on a day-to-day basis and will be alerted to actual major events by traditional news services.
I'll just wait for all of the keyboard warriors to come out and justify their addiction to outrage
