Others have answered your main question but just so you know, the word you're looking for there is "community" :)
Id seen sublemmy referenced a few times in other places so I figured it was the agreed upon term. Community is less cringe so good to know.
Yeah I think it's just with the recent influx people are naturally going back to Reddit terms wherever they're not sure what the existing word is. But it makes answering support questions more complicated sometimes so just thought I'd point it out!
