I don't know if this is a question for /r/homelabsales or here. In my area, someone has a Precision 5810 for sale for $50. Looking up the service tag (because they are not tech savvy enough to get screenshots of it running I guess), I gathered the following:

  • Xeon E5-1650 v3 (6c/12t)
  • Nvidia Quadro M4000
  • 16GB (4x4) DDR4 2200MHz

I have an old full-size Optiplex 7010 running TrueNAS Scale right now (2c/4t and 16GB DDR3) that just seems to be aging. It is stuffed with drives, and I know the Precision is limited in that capacity, but I wouldn't mind downsizing to just my 2x2TB drives and an SSD for boot. Right now I have about 3 2.5" drives crammed in there hooked up to the USB wiring (a dumb work project for extra lab storage that actually worked) plus the 2 WD Red drives.

I don't really care about the video card, I'm just trying to see if $50 is a good deal for something with those specs. Nothing too heavy, just a few VMs, Plex, and basic network shares.

I run a 5810 as a test system before replaying to a 7920. Great machine.
