How does that work, made in China but banned in China?

They can't be made there either

Title says “4090 import ban”, they’re imported from China, not to China.

They’re currently made in Taiwan, no?

e.g. those GPU assembler brands that buy chips from NV to assemble the actual cards to sell to retailers to sell to gamers, they cannot assemble the 4090 anymore because NV can't sell to them.

Taiwan is only officially part of China, in practice they go their own way.

The GPU core itself is made by TSMC in Taiwan. It's then added to PCBs in China, Taiwan, and wherever else AIBs operate.

Here the neat part, it is not made in China.

For some time now.
